Did anyone see this?? I can't seem to find a news story on it, but it went on for about 12 hours starting at 8 AM, and Fox was covering it live, wall to wall since I got home from work.

It ended almost as well as possible though. A guy got pulled over, jumped out of his car, and ran into a stop-and-rob, and took the clerk hostage. 12 hours later, they knocked down two corners of the building, breached, and after a while the guy came out with the hostage. A struggle between the hostage and perp ensued, and someone popped the perp with something that put him down instantly... hostage got away... it was all covered on live TV, and they are still showing the clip of the guy getting nailed by whatever they shot him with.

Anyone heard any more details? What did they shoot the perp with?

It is a happy day any time the hostage gets away and no cops are injured.

Looks like the perp will survive... they hit him in the right shoulder as his gun was pointed away from the hostage, during a struggle where the perp, gun, and hostage were flailing everywhere. They are touting it as the perfect shot... at a moving target, disabling his shooting arm while his gun was pointed in a "safe" direction, but not killing him.

From the way he crumples back in the tape, I thought he was done. You can see a shock from the impact rock his whole upper body. It really was an excellent pressure shot. My respect for Spartanburg PD just went up a couple notches.

The hostage opened the opportunity for that shot by struggling with the bad guy and grabbing his gun as they stumbled around the rubble of the wall breach. Kinda dicey, but still, good for her. :)

I found it while flipping the channels at 1 PM, i missed about 30 minutes total from eating dinner and going to the FD to workout. I was at the FD when it all went down, pretty amazing. If he was shot by a sniper (media doesn't know that much about anything) then he was shot by a .308 from a 700, that's spartanburg public safety's sniper rifles. media guy who had LE experience :)rolleyes: ) was talking about one of the rifles when they were changing out TNT (the name for their tac team, not SWAT) members, said they had an "infared nightvision laser device" on the bottom of the rifle. It was a bipod :banghead:

When the action started they used to robot to go up to the front of the store and shook it around a little bit to distract, then took out the back left wall with a front loader. They went in, and then the guys out front went in. About 5 minutes later (no one had come out) they tore a hole with the front loader in the front right wall b/c they said he was in the cooler (think big metal meat cooler like Under Siege when Steve gets locked in, not window drink cooler) and they couldn't get to him. 3 minutes later all you saw on the live feed was the hostage running out of the second hole (it was down an incline sorta and the lower half of the wall was obstructed from camera view) . Later they showed the guy getting shot at the hole. He was still inside w/ the hostage, about a foot from outside and was looking like he was gonna do the "take person hostage and stand at the entrance" thing. Well woman fell down, he tries to get her back up, she grabs gun and he tries to retain control and woman goes down more and he starts to come over here and then all you see is his t-shirt going wild. The guy went down, shot in the shoulder/arm, and looked like he might get back up but decided to stay down. Hostage runs to left front side of store where more tac members were and they advance a little to get her then retreat. About 20 seconds later you see something glimmering and it's the tac team's lights. Gets arrested, go to hostpital, blah blah blah.

Thing I didn't understand is they made the second hole and didn't put any entry team members on it, just covered it with a sniper. It was pretty sweet though, glad FOX 21 covered it all day. Since this big thing has happened, it'll never happen later when I hope to be bustin in the store

Personally I would hope that in the same situation, I would have the presense of mind that the hostage had...

Even though SC is the "other" Carolina, I would buy the "marksman" a beer anyday...:D
