Houston Shooting Ranges

I am in need of some help.

I started a gun club at the University of Houston Law School but now I need a range to go to. I was thinking about ASC but dont like the idea of paying per gun. I would also like to be able to be off by ourselves if possible. I was going to go up to the Sam Houston park but that got closed down. Anyone have any ideas on where would be best for a group.

I like to shoot at Carter's Country in Spring. 6231 Treschwig Road, Spring, TX 77373 Phone: (281) 821-0070. It's 25 miles north of downtown. It's a big outdoor range.

carter's country in Spring really has an outdoor range? That's awsome. Do they allow high power rifles? How much does it cost? I guess I just need to call them. My dad lives in Spring and him and my stepmom are GREAT cooks, so I could go shooting then score a free dinner woohoo!

Gun Ranges in Houston

Carter's country is a great place to shoot. It's $5.00 per gun with no time limit. They have pistol, rifle, traps and skeet. Skeet and traps are 6.50 per round.

There is also Hot Wells which is located on Hwy 290 West of Houston across from HP. the actual address is 24815 Hwy 290. Take 290 west to the Skinner exit. Make a U turn and its on the right.

My personal favorite is actually in Conroe. It's called the Gun Emporium. 11396 FM 2854 is the address. They don't have traps or skeet. The main reason I like it is that it's rarely crowded. The shooters call cease fires by concensus. They also have moveable pistol targets so the shooter is able to pick his range from 3' to 25 yards.

Does the one in Conroe allow high power rifles, or is it just pistols and such? I am in huntsville but generally go to houston every weekend cause both my parents live there and there is nothing to do up here. Do any of these ranges offer memberships of any kind? I used the range in the NF since I have started shooting and now with it closed I am rangeless. It sure is a crappy feeling Putting together a houston THR shoot is a great idea, I'd be up for it

I like PCS it is down 528 (Nasa Road One west)right before living stones Church
But it is a private club about $200.00 a year
but they have a 100-200-300yrd rifle range,
a smallbore range, a Benchrest range, 4 pistol ranges 3 of which are fully bermed IE front, left, right, and rear., archery, trap and sporting clays

If you're interested in an indoor range (handguns only) you might want to try Sportsman Shooting Center in Friendswood. The address is 4425 F.M. 2351, but it is really on a side road off 2351, right beside a church. It's maybe a mile off I45.

No per-gun charge; no time limit.

my recomendations would be in this order

Greenwood Gun club on FM 521 near Brazoria, where i shoot (it's 20 mins from my house) . only decent 600yrd range in the area (not sure but i think ASC has out to 600 but it's a really sucky setup) also as far as size fo the pistol and rifle area it's not quite as big, but in my oppinion much better than ASC. also i'll try and e-mail you more info.


after that i'd possibly go with the Bayou Rifles they have a range in the Juliff (south of Hwy6 on 521) it's better than most i've seen, and from the contact i've had they're pretty nice guys. take 288 south to just south of the Hwy 6 exit you'll see a sign for CR57 and possibly a golf course turn right on to 57, BR is on the right about a half mile beyounf the Golf course and the end fo the pavement.

be alert for an e-mail with the greenwood info b/c i truly think that we have the best range ont eh south side of houston.

I prefer Sportsman's Outlet in Humble. 25 yd. indoor range, about 20 bays. Full-auto and rifles allowed too.

Yes, the Gun Emporium in Conroe does allow high powered rifles. They have fences at 25, 50, 100 and 200 yards. They do require you sign the standard membership waver but there's no charge for the membership. I was there today after work. Great people.

so am new to this website nad joined for 1 reason only
i need help finding a gun range that also rents guns.

Marksman indoor pistol range is at Hwy 3 near Airline blvd (Monroe maybe). It is on the other side of I-45 from Hobby Airport. Last I was there it was $7 per person. No limit on guns or time. They are also open until 10 PM I think 7 days a week. They do not allow magnum calibers or rifles calibers though. Only drawback.

Carter's Country on the north side is a nice range but way too far for me to drive.

ASC is run by range nazis and yes they do charge by the gun. You could leave all your guns except in the trunk except one when you pay but that's borderline dishonest. No NFA because they are john kerry types.

Marksman is on Nebraska Street between I-45 and Highway 3. It's indoor and doesn't allow rifles. It does let you shoot full-auto SMGs, suppressors, rapid fire, double taps, whatever.

Pasadena Gun Center is only 25 yards but you can shoot anything up to 20mm in there. Full auto ok. Last time I was there a rich surgeon brought along a 1919A4 and let me shoot a belt through it. They have some MGs for rent there too. They had a real WW2 bringback Thompson, Grease Gun, IMI Uzi, and old HK MP5 and a M16.

Clear Creek shooting range is run by a nasty old fart that treats you like you just took a dump in his oatmeal.

Carter's charges by the gun as well. And ASC is actually cheaper now, if you take multiple guns with you, than Carter's after they recently raised their prices. ASC gives you a discount for the second, third, etc., guns; Carter's has a flat price per. Carter's does NOT rent guns. They charge per piece prices for the ones YOU bring.

ASC has a LOT more room for a club than Carter's. I shoot at Carter's a LOT and unless you're going to go at 9 am in the middle of the week, you are NOT going to find sufficient room on the firing line on the weekends and at night, certainly not leading up to hunting season.

ASC also has 200- and 300-yard ranges, whereas the local neighborhoods pressured Carter's to close the 200 yd range. Carter's does have expanded trap and skeet now, though.

There are two other shooting ranges in Conroe that I'm aware of (besides the Gun Emporium), one is an indoor called Shooter's Station off of 105, and the other is Thunder Gun Range off of 1314. I haven't been to Shooter's Station in years so I can't recall any details on them. Thunder Gun Range is where I've done most of my recent shooting only because they are right down the street from me. I'm not fond of their pricing scheme (~$8 per gun or per shooter, whichever is greater) but you can shoot all day if you want. They have area for rifle, handgun and shotgun. Cease-fires are called over a PA system, though that's if anyone on the rifle range needs one. The pistol area is rigged on a pully system so you don't have to go downrange.

If you want to risk sucking in massive amounts of cordite you can try the Pasadena Indoor range. It has to have the worst ventilation I've ever bore witness too. You are picking black boogers for about 3 days straight. Last time I was there it was about $6-$7 a lane. They allowed shooting practically anything you can imagine, though it's only a 25yd range.

American Shooting Center is good if you are shooting rifles or skeet shooting, but there are just too many people and too many strict rules and procedures out there for me. It's only 5 minutes from my house. I will only go out there if it is late in the day on a weekday and nobody is out there.

But Top Gun, is nice, the staff there are friendly, it's air conditioned and you can pretty much do what you want within common sense gun safety.

The only downside to it is that, lately, all the lanes have been taken up on weekends so you might have to wait about 20-30 minutes for a lane to open up. (But this is rare...in fact, the past couple of times I've been there I haven't had this problem. I think it was mostly after Christmas time when everyone was trying out their new guns )
