I don't think I've seen an AR pic thread in awhile. I took some pics during my last range trip and thought I'd share.
Let's see yours!

ocabj said:That's a very uninspiring photo of my Colt Sporter HBAR Lightweight circa 1993. 16" barrel, 1 in 7 twist. Aimpoint Comp ML2. I guess I'll have to take a real photo of it sometime.

Bridger said:You need to toss a 1911 in that pic for period tacticoolness!
ocabj said:Yeah. No kidding. Leave it to Colt with the weird naming conventions. But with the thousands of rounds I've put through it in the 12 years I've had it, not one malfunction, ever. I'm probably mistaken, and it's just considered a Colt Sporter Lightweight, but I believe the barrel is heavy contour. I'm positive it's a 1:7 chrome lined barrel, though.
Dave Markowitz said:That's not a heavy barrel, it's a light barrel, i.e. same contour as on an M-16A1, just shorter. Look at the barrel on my Colt AR-15A3, which is a heavy. Yours has a chromed bore and chamber though I don't know offhand the twist. The easy way to measure is take a cleaning rod with a patch on it and put it in the bore via the muzzle. Put a dot on the rod with a Sharpie just above the muzzle and withdraw the rod from the muzzle until the dot makes one full rotation. Measue the how far the dot is from the muzzle and that's your twist rate.
ocabj said:Ditto. Milspec 1911 only, though. No stainless steel, Novak sight, IPSC tuned 1911s allowed in that picture.
BTW, I catch Hell every time I take my "pimp pistol" to the range with my brother in law. It really did fall out of the redwood ugly tree, but it works. They're ivory. Only a pimp from a cheap New Orleans whorehouse would carry a pearl-handled pistol.
