On a little side note, does anyone know if their are any real differences between an RRA tactical entry and their tactical car4? oh yeah and has anyone had feeding problems using cheap ammo through their RRA. oh yeah and are their any advantages to the R4 barrel

My RRA has problems with British Mil-Surp SS-109, it's been flawless with XM855, XM193, Black Hills 68gr HP, and WWB 40rnd value packs.

The only difference I can tell between the two is the barrel profile.

I am curious about the R4 barrel also, whats the point of it?

The AR is a Govt Series 6551 with a Colt 4x scope, the other one is a Colt Match Hbar flattop with a 20x scope.

Barrel profile

GoRon,

The cutout on a RRA Entry Tactical Carbine R4 barrel (as well as models from other manufacturers) is a copy of the M4 military carbine. The reduced barrel profile forward of the front sight facilitates the attachment of a M203 series 40mm grenade launcher to the carbine.

Here is a link to some information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M203

Having pulled a bunch of 203s off of M4s this week I can tell you that forquidder is exactly right.

Beautiful rifle Boing, reminds me of the pristine Colt SP1 my father sold on me while I was in Nicaragua. Long story short, doing business with family doesn't always go well:banghead:

so I don't know anything about these types of rifles or the ban, but are these full auto? Someone let me shoot something that resembled these and it was full auto in 9mm. It was cool but ate ammo faster than I could buy it. have fun with those.

A couple of my lesser known AR's.

My Rock River Gator with Jewell trigger.

The AR-15 is the semi-automatic version of the fully automatic M-16 and other "more than one round fired per trigger pull" guns. The Assault Weapon Ban had nothing to do with fully automatic weapons.

As was just said, the AR15 is the semi-auto cousin of the M-16 family of weapons. Basically, it looks like a fully-automatic weapon, but it is semi-auto only. The "ban" in question was the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, which banned the manufacture of guns having certain prohibited features (all mostly cosmetic). Notably, full-auto fire was not banned (as it had been banned for civilian manufacture already in 1989).

mbs,

That's a MagPul. It's designed to enable the shooter to quickly pull a magazine from a pouch, in order to reload faster. They're intended for combat situations, where seconds really count. Back in the day, when I was on active duty, we used parachute cord, run through the hole in the floorplate and tied off, to do the same thing. The MagPul's tend to make it easier to remove the floorplate when cleaning the mag.

Ahhhh, I see now.
Come to think of it I believe I've seen soldiers wearing vests with the things poking out from the pockets...just never drew the connection for some reason.
Thanks.
(I can finally sleep.)

I seriously love the look of the classic A1 M16 and would love to get one if they werent like 16k.

Stupid 86 ban.

You can buy the uppers brand new never fired. Then buy a complete lower with that style buttstock, a bolt, carrier and charging handle and you are good to go.

Well, its not quite mine, but I call it mine, and its not exactly an AR-15, its an M-4
