On my way to church this morning, I grabbed a gun from the vault, as I was almost out the door, and often go out for breakfast afterwards, and then stop at a nearby range for some late morning plinking. As luck would have it, my hands fell on my Ruger Security Six 4", as the holster was with it, and it matched my black belt. Got to be well dressed on Easter, right? Well, first of all, Happy Easter to you all! Breakfast ended up at my brothers, as the restaurant we usually go to was closed. Then I drove out to the range, and set up a target at 25 yards, different than the one you see below, which was also a 25 yard group. The results were much the same. It was a 1/2 size silhouette, called the B-29. I like the blue, as I am cheap and can patch with blue painter's tape. The results today were easy headshots on the half sized head. This Ruger is incredible. Even though I'm not crazy about the muzzle blast of a .357, often preferring a .45 or 147gr 9mm, it just flat out shoots good, and isn't that what it's all about? I was wondering how many of the rest of you have a favorite 4" revolver that just "does it". My loads were 158gr XTP's @ around 1200 or so fps. ..........................................

Both of my 4"ers will out shoot me any day. But my M-19 must really like me as it's the most accurate of the two, even with full house .357 Magnum ammo.

well that is some good shooting Sharps!!

was that single action or double action?

my 4in stainless SS shoots well but I am not that good at 25 yds!! i stick to 38sp with 124g FPcast bullets under 4.5 gr of unique! i like to shoot double action!

I am happy with my 44mag 4" Colt Anaconda. For the reduction in the sight radius compared to a 6" barrel, you get a better balance, especially with a full underlug.

Good shootin', SDM.

I have a couple.

From 10 yards...

my 4" DAO 686, standing (top) and supported (bottom):

...and my 4" 617, 10 yards, standing, unsupported, double action:

And at 25 yards, my 617 again (standing, unsupported, double action):

I usually brace my elbows on the table, but shoot with two hands otherwise unsupported. I don't have a bag or rests, and really don't want my hands or the gun butt touching anything so as to not disturb the shot. I feel this is about as close to unsupported, but giving a little edge to steadiness to the arms. Point of impact/sight changes should bring it about the same as a standing unsupported POI. It IS getting harder to focus on the front sight as I get older.

I have a 4" 686SSR, a 4" M29 and this 4" 625JM. The 625 is my favorite.

I don't think I've ever fired any of them single-action.

This group was fired slow-fire DA at 25 yds.

Unless there is a problem with the gun most of them will outshoot most human operators.

My 30 y.o. son is quite good with my M851 Rossi 4". He can regularly knock down bowling pins at 50 yds., single handed double action.

I have a 4" Python that Colt rebuilt for me. It is very accurate.

Nothing says Easter like an afternoon of shooting! Ours was AR's in the back yard. (After church, of course)

Fine looking groups folks. Nice shooting irons too. Unfortuantely not a proud owner of a 4 incher at present but did happen to lug a few around over the years..lol. For straight target shooting Colt Trooper Mark III was the best I ever had the pleasure to shoot and carry. Had the nicest crisp sights I ever seen on a gun and about a half fast bull barrel. Added 20 points to the monthly score immediately when I traded the old scuffed up 28 Smith in for it. Drawback was it had a crappy trigger pull which could not be remedied with wire cutters..lol. Leaf springs or some such nonsense..but being front heavy and good sights outweighed that aspect by a bunch. Anyway if I was facing bad guys the 28 would be my choice. Did get a chance to test fire the Ruger competitor and I thought it shot great. Nobody else liked it mainly because it did not have SW stamped on it somewhere. Just speculating..lol. I agree all of them can outshoot the shooter. Some offer advantages for serious bizness such as being able to pop open the cylinder and reload with one hand. Colt fails that test bad. Forget now how the Ruger busted open but it has bound to been good or I would not have liked it..lol.

My 4" 625 out shoots me easy. I do think a 4" GP100 might be in my future since I have a love of magnums and revolvers.

Ruger Redhawk modified by Hamilton Bowen to .500 Linebaugh per his advice to me, with Magnaport vents. If I'm close enough to hit it, I'm close enough to blow it to smithereens.

I've got a 4" Smith #15, .38 Spl. that shoots a lot better than I can. I definitely need more practice to get into Mr. Borlands segment of accuracy, whew, many more rds. for me!

LOTS of rounds. That's all it takes really. And staring at the front sight so hard you can see the molecules in it.

8.5 x 11 paper at 25 yards.

I have a bad habbit of shooting in the upper right quadrant.
According to the diagnosis chart I'm pushing anticipating recoil (left handed).
I just got done loading 150 rounds so I'll be working on that tomorrow.:)

I sanded down the sharp corners on my grips and then re-varnished them.
You can also see where I took a little off where the pinky finger rests.
I like it much better when my pinky doesn't stack over my ring finger.

Backpacker33, it would appear you have ignited your target!:evil::neener:

I have a Colt King Cobra 4" that is wonderfully accurate. Maybe one day I'll find out how much if I get good enough!

My 4" Redhawk is more than accurate enough. With my standard plinkin load of a 250 gr Keith style at about 950 fps. It'll do 2" at 25 yards all day long. And it would do better if I could.

My 4" Model 686 would be the one gun that just does it in terms of its DA/SA trigger and its practical accuracy.

My matte black 4 inch DSS 19-7 will group a cylinder of Remington 38+P JHP into a 1 inch cloverleaf at 10 yards. With me standing behind it. ;)

I'd love to see what it is capable of with someone who had steadier hands, better eyes and perhaps had not drank the entire 32oz coffee on the way to the range.

If your revolver has a four inch barrel on it, it's junk. You need at least a six incher to even hope to hit a garbage can at seven yards, single action.

Heh, april fools
