Also, be aware of this trap:
NJ takes the position that a firearm on the banned by name list is an assault weapon, EVEN IF IT IS IN POSTBAN FORMAT.
You can get into trouble with a Colt branded "AR-15", even if it would otherwise meet the evil feature count.
I had a young turk LEO who thought he was all sly try to snag me on that @ a range a few years back. Fortunately, my AR (which at the time was in postban format) was made by Bushmaster rather than Colt, and bore the name XM-15 rather than AR-15
