I'm moving to another state, and the relo company doesn't ship ammo. Our cars are being shipped and we are flying out there so taking it ourselves isn't an option.

I have hundreds of dollars worth of high quality manufacturer only ammunition, just how can I either ship it, or dispose of it safely.

Thanks

Rent a storage shed and put it there till you can come back for it or hide it in something so the movers will take it or just get friends together and shoot it all or give it to us.

I know my favorite way to get rid of ammo...:D

Do you not have the time or opportunity to shoot it? That would be my first choice.

Newton,
There may be some THR folks who are nearbly who will buy it from you. Make a list and see who pipes in.
If there is a decent gun store nearby you might be able to trade the stuff in for some hardware, then ship it to your new location.
If you have a buddy nearby, have him/her hold onto it for you until you can come back and get it/ship it to you when you are settled... same with the hardware if you can't send it right away.
Are you moving cross-country or out of the continental U.S.?
You could probably have a buddy UPS the stuff to you when you are settled.
Best of luck.

You can't lock it in the trunk of your car? If necessary, buy a Homak pistol safe ( about $30) and put it in your trunk.

Sell or trade it to a local gun shop. Don't expect to get anywhere near what you paid for it. If you wind up with half the value you're doing good.

What kind of ammo? Try to sale it or donate it to a local gun club for teaching purposes. If not go to the range before you leave and "have a blast"

Bury them down a groundhog hole. After 2-3 months of discarding corroded and unusable ammunition down there, use it as a place to dump bad gas.

Then place the launchpad for a model rocket over that hole, after you've gotten rid of a pint of gunpowder down the hole.

I wish I had that on video, honest I did...

Ok let me see if I can answer all the questions:

We are moving from Westminster, MD to Phoenix, AZ.

I can't put in the trunk of our cars, it's against the shipping rules.

No time to shoot it, I travel a lot and only have 2 weeks to go.

I have found a buyer for my 9mm (a lot of 9mm) including some prized Golden Saber bonded +P.

I have 6 or 7 hundred rounds of Wolf 7.62x39, the good (and rare) Copper jacketed stuff that is easier on barrels.

A few hundred 30 Carbine, about 500 .22LR, several hundred .380ACP Winclean/a couple of boxes of Santa Barbra (the hot stuff)/a box of Hydrashok, maybe a hundred .38 Special including some 110grain +P Corbon, couple hundred Barnaul 9x18 Mak, couple hundred .32ACP, including some Corbon.

It's a really nice mixed bag of good quality ammo that's probably worth three hundred bucks or so.

I was thinking fifty bucks, but hell just make me an offer and it's yours, you'd be doing me a favor.

If anyone wants it just let me know, otherwise I'll just give it to some local gun store.

These numbers aren't exact, just a best guess.

Pack it up, mark the box "Books", let the movers take it. Use several boxes if necessary. If you're really paranoid, pack the ammo in a box with books all around it.

My experience is that the movers dont care. The guy or gal that does the estimate will blather about rules if you ask, the guy with truck and the 5 crackheads that will load it wont care what you put in there as long as it doesnt stink, spill or rupture. They will never open the stuff you pack. Worst case is that something you pack starts a fire or explosion, or whatever, you'll be liable for damage. Your ammo isnt going to do that.

I bet you could write "Human Heads" on a box and they'll happily put it on the truck without saying a word.

Legal to Ship UPS

Marked ORM-D small arms ammo it is legal to ship it anywhere in the lower 48 to someone over the age of 21 and willing to accept it for you.

Man, I'd hate to havet o give up all my ammo!

Newton,
if you rreally and truly cannot ship it to yourself and still want to sell it, I will pay you the 50 bucks for the wolf 7.62x39, the 32ACP and the 22LR and shipping as well.
Just promise me you will ship it as economically as possible with UPS!

Newton: Im in westminster, and i will gladly take that ammo off your hands. Ill give ya 30 bucks for all of it, and i can pick it up this week. Ive met you at the range before.

As long as it is in the original boxes or a resonable substitue to can take I think up to 11 pounds(per meaning 22 counting So) with you on the airplane in your checked lugage. Check with the airline.
