Ok I need help! A friend has a rem 700. 30-06 from the barrel codes I determined it was made August of 1981. But where I'm stumped is it has a detachable magazine and it appears to be factory but I have never seen a detachable magazine factory in a Remington 700... So I want to know what model it is. Adl,bdl,cdl... I'm not sure if it's in the original stock or not... How can I figure this out? The stock looks like a bdl... Was it an option to get a detachable magazine in 1981?

There was a factory 700BDL DM for a time, but from your pictures I can't see the release latches. I recall it being much later than 1981. My guess is that aftermarket bottom metal was later installed to accommodate a detachable setup. Can you post images of the bottom metal, the magazine release, and one of the magazines out of the rifle?
