Many years of loading and shooting and I have yet found a way to clean the lug recess's on my bolt actions. I do the best I can with a shot gun swab that fits tight and seems to get into them fairly well. But I would eternally grateful if one of you have some little trick to get them free of all debris. I also put the barrel into a cup of pure acetone and take a cleaning patch and run it all the way down to the end of the barrel. When I retract it, it sucks the acetone all the way back into the chamber and rinses it out real good. This also works well for getting any brass fragments that collect in the nooks and cranny's of the chamber. I like acetone also for rinsing the bolt to get all the build up of cleaning solution out of it, even though I only put very tinny amount on the lugs.

I'm thinking an undersized wooden bolt mockup with replaceable felt or similiar cover would work pretty well, put the one for cleaning solution in, work it for a minute, either switch to a different cover to dry or have a separate bolt that's drying specific.

Has that ever been invented?

Thats something to look into, though, I'd have to have one made for all of my rifles minus the .22. All I own are bolts, so I'd have to make one for my 8mm Mauser, my mosin, my .243 Win Savage, and my 7.5 Swiss

i have the same tipton cleaner as wrench. i can tell you is is the slickest thing since sliced bread. buy one, and never look back!

Hot water and dish soap in the sink, a nylon bristle brush and some elbow grease.

I have used cotton pipe cleaners wrapped tightly around the end of different shaped dental picks to clean AR-15 chambers. I imagine this would work for bolt guns too.
