Over the years, people who know me have lent/given me guns when family members die or get too old to use them. A few friends bought old houses and found guns in them, but weren't shooters themselves so they lent/gave some old shotguns to me.

These are all junk. Some might still shoot, but I wouldn't shoot them. Some are rusted solid, A few have a missing part here and there.

I haven't seen a gun buy back program in awhile....so how do I dispose of these guns?

Post some pics.

I might take some off your hands for free. Might even be willing to pay shipping to me.

I guarantee that your "junk" guns would be absolute treasure to somebody else.

Put them on auctionarms.com or gunbroker.com for $0.01 each, with no reserve, with reasonable shipping charges. They'll probably sell.

I'm with Hillbilly. I might be persuaded to take them off your hands.:)

I saw a lady walk into a shop I was in and ask the owner if he would take some her father had that were rusted out. She brought them in all totally rusted out. He took them and the lady left. Just ask some shops if they will dispose of them

Hi depicts-

Mount them on a hardwood board and display above your fireplace or in the recreation room in your house. For that use, the rustier, the better.

You might find that some of those old guns are valuable as a source of parts for others that are still shootable. Internal parts (e.g. pins, springs, etc.) are often not rusted, even though the exterior finish is shot (you should pardon the expression... :D ), and might be of value to a gunsmith or gun shop. Try listing the guns by make, manufacturer, etc., and see what the response is like.

Some of those old rusted out guns that look like junk may be able to be restored with some TLC. Some could be very collectable to the right people. I would take them to a reputable gun shop if you don't know enough about them to make your own decision on what they are, or are worth. I would hate to see a gun destroyed that could be servicable and maybe given to a deserving kid or maybe Boy Scout Troop.

Easy one to answer...

Just do what i've done in the past with no hassle & minimum fuss. Go to your local police dept. and tell them you'd like to have the old guns safely disposed of or destroyed. ( presuming they really are worthless junk, as they were in my case ) They'll be glad to help you out. B]

Im with some others post some pics or tell us what ya got

Yeah, I've got a rusty old luger and it's in .45ACP to boot. No idea how to dispose of it. ...........

Hey, you've got one too? You can barely read the serial number "#2" under all the rust on mine. And here I thought it was rare.

No matter what you want to do, dont give them up to a buy back program. Dont let those idiots take a piece of junk/history off the street just because its for the children. If YOU want to destroy them for some reason, cut them in pieces with a chop saw.

Perhaps find a gunsmith school to give them to.

Let me get this straight, you can figure out how to post on an
internet forum but can't figure out how to get rid of some old guns?

I smell a troll............................................................

Besides many here who would be glad to have them, even in poor condition, the most profitable way for you to dispose of them would be to strip them down and sell their parts on ebay. The only thing you can't sell that way is the receivers . Of course I hope you know that some guns are rare enough that they bring good money even in very poor condition.

Otherwise you can ask at a local private gun shop - particularly if they do some in house gunsmithing work. They are generaly happy to buy them for parts. I spent 15 years doing gun repair and always was happy to get the oppertunity to buy junkers for parts.

Naw, guys- I think this is a genuine question. Sometimes a person has serious questions about old guns, but doesn't wish to pass the "problem" down to the next generation at death, and isn't sure what to do at all.

If you're serious, I would just put them in the "For Sale" section of the board for a nominal amount (plus shipping), and be done with it. You'll get some ammo cash for what you still shoot, and you will be reasonably sure they went to good homes.

GUN PARTS CORP. in West Hurley, NY purchases old firearms and parts.

Basically, you send them the firearms and/or parts for their evaluation and they send you a check. If the amount is not satisfactory, return the check and the parts will be returned to you.

All transfers are in accordance with state and federal law.
