How do I get rid of old guns?

Bogie, I'm no troll

Bogie, I don't smell like a penguin (whatever that means:rolleyes: )

I do however live in Massachusetts, and trying to figure out how to explain where guns come from in this state makes it kinda, sorta, tough to bring them to the police if you know what I mean.

Friends, trust me, I know enough about guns to have some idea what these are worth, and it isn't even the postage to send them to Biker who would take such good care of them :D (I've gotten to like Biker's postings)

The idea of giving them to a gunsmith school sounds pretty good, but again, there is the transfer issue and the "where's they come from question.

See my post today about them trying to track bullets in Boston, and you'll see what we're up against here.

I just thought if there was a no questions asked gun buyback program, I could turn in these pieces of crap and maybe get some new sneaks or a walkman ;)

(Later edit...hmmmmmmm...ocean, now why didn't I think of that????)

Post them under Buy/Sell and list them as Karma items. Free to good home, just pay shipping. Between all of us here, you can probably get rid of most of them.

Seriously, the only thing we like better than guns is free guns. :)

depicts,

Sorry for labeling you a troll.

I forget that people in some states have an issue with private party sales.

Here in Texas we just treat 'em like a lawn mower - for the most part.
Heck, I would not be suprised to find there are more reg's on lawn mower
sales that gun sales in Texas.

At any rate, good luck.

Hmmm... I'm in Mass also. Only had to do this once (piece of c**p in FIL's house found after he died). Police no prob - even wanted to come pick it up rather than I bring it in. Didn't care where it came from, never asked for my FID, nada. But that is small-town W.Mass AND only one rusted-out hulk w/ 20% missing.

Find some one who is going to gunsmithing school and give them to them. You'll save them some money, and after they are are certified, they could do some work for you.

Did I mention that I love old SxS (yes, even cheap Hardware store ones.....)

:D ;)

If it were me, I would put them up for auction on gunbroker or Auction Arms. I have noticed that old "junk" guns tend to bring a pretty good price most of the time. It seems like the junkier the better. If you have 10 guns, you will probably make about $500. Worth the time for that kind of scratch.

If you have ever followed auctions on GB, $50 seems like the minium ANY gun will sell for. Most people will but it just to tinker with it and see if they can get it to work. I like old C&Rs because you never know what you are going to find under all that cosmo. It doesn't always have to make finanical sense, there is a hobby thing going on as well. Some people like to buy old junk cars that aren't worth the scrap steel price and spend a small fortune fixing them up. I know I have spent much more that guns would ever really be worth by fixing them up. I bought a couple of old junker M-44s and spent about twice what they were worth on fixing them up but I didn't regret it. I got to know about how they work and I felt like I saved a few pieces of history in the process.

Cut it up

Cut the guns up into little bitty pieces and pray to your holy father above you don't go to hell for supporting the weapons of evil.

You have stated that your state requires that you register all guns, correct?

If that is true can you legally sell them on a auction site or even give them away without exposing yourself to charges?
