How do I ship a rifle?

I just sold a rifle here on the boards, and have no idea how to ship it. Will USPS ship a rifle, from private Joe to an FFL? Do I have to us UPS or FedEx? If I have to go private, does it have to be overnight? Any and all advice appreciated, thanks guys.

Get a copy of the dealer's FFL before shipping.

Is that mainly a CYA, to make sure the buyer actually gave you a real FFL to send it to?

And just as an extra measure of CYA, get a copy of the FFL signed by the FFL in ink over the copy.

Then go to gunbroker.com and find the place that lets you verify the validity of the ffl.

Once you do that you may want to check on state laws or just call the ffl.

I always insure the package too. Does not cost much but gives peace of mind.

I also tuck a copy of the ffl license in with the rifle and tape one in an envelope on the outside of the box.

A little trouble on your part goes a long way toward a smooth and event free transaction.

Shipping

You can get the FFL you're shipping to, to send you his shipping label. Most also have a Fed X number on their label. Saves having to make all the copies,and no questions. S.R.
