I'm just curious as to how people carry their BUG, especially if it isn't in the pocket. Typically, I carry my XDm (main) either IWB or OWB at 9:00-ish, and my LCP (BUG) in the left hip pocket of my shorts.

I started carrying a 2nd gun full time about 3 years ago.

I tried pocket carry, didn't like it, and when seated and driving, I didn't have access to it at all and had a tough time getting to my main gun at it's 4:30 position IWB.

So I went with ankle carry of a J-frame, and haven't gone back since. Some people don't find ankle carry comfortable, but I found it wasn't much different to get used to that a gun in any other carry position. I can get to it easily while driving or seated, and since a few times a year my job has me driving from one side of the city to another for a week or two while running two locations, I do spend some time behind the wheel.

Airweight J frame, in a Mika holster, offside front pocket (this is my always gun). It performs the BUG function the 95% of the time that I'm carrying another pistol.

P3AT in a mercharness, situated for non-dominant hand draw. Great for driving, gives options during a struggle over my primary.

I used this exact gun and holster method for a few years, works VERY well, and gives a, "OK, pal, let me get my wallet for you", draw.

Nowadays, it's a little different. ;)

Depends on weather

In winter its a jacket/coat pocket.

In summer its ankle or pocket.

Gun changes due to area to which I am going.

from a NAA .22 mag [ pocket ] to a S&W 360 [ ankle/pocket ].

To a weak side belt with another full sized pistol [ Glock 19/23 ].

In winter the ankle gets too much exposure to snow,so the ankle holster is not used till snow is gone.

Primary is worn in the same place as was the duty gun, waistline at '6' o clock.

I'm not a fan, I'd never carry in anything that would require me to sweep my own hip upon draw.

I know you have the experience to keep safe, but not something I'd recommend anyway.

The cavalry twist draw results in pointing a loaded gun crosswise into your pelvis.

Bad idea.

Depends.

442 IWB? NAA in left pocket.

1911 IWB? 442 in left pocket.

Pocket carry not an option?

1911/PPQ strong side, 442 left appendix.

Lots of other options too... Too many guns, too few holsters, no shortage of carry positions!

My friend Anthony, from another forum, started using the term "roving" gun; very descriptive, as I do not have a consistent place for the secondary weapon, and indeed, might go for it instead of the "primary" weapon, depending upon the clothing, circumstances, and environment. About the only constants are that I tend to always wear a weapon at the 0300 position, and one of my two or several weapons is an SP101 revolver. The SP101 may be the larger, the smaller, or I may carry more than one SP101.

A favored place to tote a secondary weapon is in a cargo pocket of my VertX pants, which I wear on police patrol, and also wear on my own time, sometimes. It is important to note that most cargo pants let heavy objects flop about too much, though VertX pants seem quite good in this regard, but these particular pants rip/tear much too easily, so I do not recommend them. I would love this pants if they didn't tear so readily; I have not found any cargo pants that can so comfortably tote a handgun in the cargo pockets.

With some pants, and some footwear, ankle carry works well for me. This is, for me, a special-circumstances way to wear a secondary weapon.

I have worn a secondary weapon inside or outside the pants waistband, at the "appendix" position, right or left side.

I have worn a second gun directly opposite the primary position, at 0900. This has the advantage of mirroring my primary-side draw-stroke, and takes advantage of the fact that I am actually left-handed, though I have trained to be functionally ambidextrous with handguns. (There are actually some advantages to using one's dominant hand as the support hand.)

I agree, although mainly because I'm cross eye dominant ;). I also can see a point for, if you're LH, using your RH as your main hand, since most controls are designed for RH users.

I'm wondering, would an ankle holster look odd on someone wearing shorts?

"Cross Breed" inside the waist band at 4:00. I bought it for a Taurus PT 145 but it also works with my S&W 6906, my 1911, Ruger standard model .22., 4" .22 revolver, 4".357 Ruger Security Six revolver and my wife's S&W .380 Back Up. It holds them all securely and comfortably. I gues the flexibility of the plastic part that makes this possible.

S&W Model 37 in my left front pocket at work, back up for my issued Model 686-6.

Not working, the Model 37 usually rides in a Safety Speed cross-draw spring holster (I can draw with either hand from that one.), back up for my 3 inch Model 13-3 or 4 inch Model 10 worn in the same place as my duty gun. On occasion when I'm not really going anywhere, the Model 37 IS my primary in a Don Hume JIT worn where my normal primaries ride.

Oops! Almost forgot that I have a J-frame shoulder holster for the Model 37 or Taurus 85SSUL, and sometimes I carry both of them and leave the heavy stuff locked up at home.

Other back-up tools are a Ka-Bar TDI serrated hiding behind my duty belt stuff behind my left hip at work and worn "appendix carry" under my Hawai'ian shirts not at work, and a Ka-Bar TDI LDK worn on a neck chain all the time.

I carry my main gun, Glock 36 in an IWB holster 3 o'clock position and my LCP in an ankle hoslter, inner portion of my leftt boot. I always wear cowboy boots at work or at play.

When I've carried a BUG in the past, it's been a J-Frame on the ankle in an Apache rig, or with an Uncle Mike's pocket holster in a jacket or pants pocket. Additionally, I tried a PM9 in a High Noon Hidden Ally at the appendix position, but just couldn't get used to it.
