Most of my guns were bought, some were traded for. I have been given guns, mostly when a minor but one as a favor for helping clear an estate; and have inherited a couple. All pretty clear what type of transaction, right?

But on the Internet I read of guns that the user:
came into
came by
picked up
obtained
procured
received
got
came into possession of

I had a longer list on my defunct computer; will add to the list here as I see obscure means of getting guns. Hey, "got" counts.

OK, add:
found

I just wonder at the terms. Euphemisms or imprecise language?

I find some, some find me.

Some follow me home, I feed them and they stay.

I’ll put a couple in a drawer and come back later and there’s several. 1911s are especially bad about this.

Some of my best deals have come from craigslist. Have to be quick because the posts get flagged quickly. I've bought guns from craigslist that I didn't even know I needed. Hard to pass up a good deal.

I acquired most of mine while fishing as salvage from tragic boating accidents.

In order of acquisition:

4 kinda-sorta-inherited (ones the actual heirs knew I'd like, or they didn't want);
1 traded (my k-s-i for someone else's k-s-i)
1 internet purchase directly through local ffl (he did searching & ordering)
1 disposal request (sure, i'll get rid of that nasty old unfired revolver for you! got any more that need removal?)
1 gun show purchase (dealer-not the gunshow loophole, dagnabbit)
1 face-to-face purchase (living room loophole)
1 gift (birthday present)
1 local gun store purchase (what an odd experience...)

Some I've had passed down.
A few were given to me by my parents as gifts.
I've bought a few at gunshops, and a couple at pawn shops.
Traded for a couple.
I've done it all, and I like it all.

Straw purchase:evil: (just kidding)

Let see how many I can remember:

Inherited
Bought gunshop
Traded

Sounds very much like many of my weapons... And critters too

My purchases/acquisitions have ran the gamut, local FFL, FFL-FFL & Private-FFL transfers, Gunshow FFL & Private, Private FtF and trades.

Bought most,
traded one,
got another as a 22nd birthday gift from Dad
Got another that Dad found in his house that he had no idea where it came from.

But mostly bought.

Friend of mine is a gunsmith. He gives me asigned copy of his FFL, I order and pay for the piece. It ships to him and he charges 10 bucks for the transfer plus 5 for the instant check.

A couple bought from friends and too many trips to the local used gun seller. I've only ever bought one at a gun show and one online.

Local shops, local gun shows, gunbroker, couple private sales.......inherited one.

I've been shifting more to building my own from kits. I rarely buy new from dealers due to the markup. Over the past five years 90% of my intake has been horse trading ftf or gunbroker non-dealer transactions. That's compared with about 80% or more of my intake from dealers before 2004. I also no longer use dealers to sell. I either go on a national forum or sell on a local swap and sell. It's faster and easier, with no percentage to a middle man.
