I have an older Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge that I would like to change out the the standard ejector/ejector spring to a mag ejector/ejector spring... so it will properly eject 3 inch shells. Any suggestions on how this is done would be appreciated.
Thanks! Art G.

This really isn't a "home" job.

The extractor assembly is held in place by two odd double-headed rivets.

Look at the left side of the receiver, and you can make out the rivets, which pass though the receiver wall.

To remove and re-attach the ejector assembly, a special tool set is required to cut then re-rivet the double-headed rivets.

This tool set is available from Brownell's Gunsmith Supply, but costs about $38.00.

With the set, you can sometimes re-rivet the existing rivets. If this isn't possible, the receiver must be refinished after new rivets are installed.

Unless your going to be doing much of this, and also have intentions of re-bluing your gun, I'd suggest having a gunsmith do the job.

Thanks for this information. I figured that with the rivets it was a complicated situation but just wanted to know for sure. I am going to leave everything well enough alone!
Best regards, Art G.
