Ok guys, I really feel stupid for asking this one. Ive looked around and cant really find out "how" to ware one. When I sling the rifle over my back, the muzzle end falls back and the but end come around my back until Im carrying the gun at about a 45 deg angle on my weak side upside down. When I use it like a single pint sling its fine until I bring the guy to up and ready. It feels like the sling is catching on my shoulder (Think one of those strap wrenches) and not letting me shoulder the weapon properly.
Does anyone know of a video, or series of pictures that demonstrates that loop is for what kind of carry?

+1. I was going to say something like "Step 1: List 3 point sling on eBay, Step 2: Sell on eBay, Step 3: Use money to buy good two point sling," but that idea is pretty much already out there earlier in the thread.

I've never found a three point particularly handy or useful. Single points are okay, but if you start doing much movement you tend to start getting smacked in the groin, knees, etc., and don't have really good muzzle control if you have to go hands off the weapon.

Best solution I've personally seen is an adjustable two point sling, like the Vickers or Viking Tactical slings (I prefer the Vickers, but the Viking has its fans also). Good weapons retention, and being able to cinch them up tight makes for good stability and muzzle control if you need to use both hands for some kind of activity.

How to actually answer a question.

That is not a 3 point sling.

The 3 point sling is designed to carry the weapon in front of you, muzzle down.

To mount it, hold the weapon in your firing hand, muzzle pointed down and to your support side, sights pointed to your firing side

The big loop should at the top of the sling. Insert your support arm and head through that loop.

the weapon should hang comfortably with the butt of the stock very close to the mounting point on your shoulder, and be able to swing up into a ready or shooting position with little effort.

If you like to appear to be lazy while carrying you can actually rest your arms on the butt of the weapon while walking, talking, etc.

See the strap in front of the user that runs parallel to the rifle? That's what makes it a three point sling. i.e. An extra strap that covers the weapon controls, catches on your gear and functions as a general nuisance.
