How functional is the collapsible stock on the HK91/PTR91?

I like the compact size of the rifle with the stock collapsed, but in general I do not like the way collapsible stocks feel. How sturdy is it? Can you get an appropriate cheek weld?

I have several, the collapsible HK stock isn't very forgiving, the 223 & 9mm isn't too bad but I don't like the cheek weld on a 308 at all. It has the cool factor but I prefer their solid stocks. There was a company that made a rubber cheek piece that would snap in between the rails I thought was a good idea but I never had one as it was just something else to carry around.

I've shot an HK91 with one of their collapsible stocks. Initially thought it would be miserable, but they work surprisingly OK. They aren't a multi-positional adjustable sniper stock, but for field work with irons, I found them perfectly serviceable.

Edit: It was the model with the convex butt stock, and I thought it worked perfectly fine with no excess recoil.

If you can find one of the earlier models of the collapsible stock, the one with the concave buttplate rather than the convex, later model, buttplate, I think you will be happier. The itty bitty rounded off buttplate subjectively seems to magnify recoil in your shoulder.

I held a PTR-91 PDW (Pistol) in .308 and put it back down because there was nothing to hold on to...I envisioned beating the living crap out of my wrist with that thing.

There wasn't even a way to look down the freaking sights. So, I would imagine any stock is better than the no stock model I was considering.

The stock is ok unless you have pronounced cheek bones in your face. Which is funny because a lot of German people do... Even the MP5 with the collapsing stock hurt my face after a few rounds but I have not tried it with the Century '91' that I own because I'm sure it will hurt worse.

I was never too thrilled with the fixed stock on my HK91; the overall length was too short and I had a hard time getting a decent cheek weld while trying to use the iron sights. I can't imagine the situation would be any way improved by going with the collapsible stock.

I never understood people cryin' about a war rifle that hurt their cheek. Kinda like the trigger-slap-hurts crowd. Can you imagine having to listen to them on the front lines?:uhoh:

LOL! Yeah, I see your point, but I am NOT a soldier, and I don't play one on TV either. I am a civilian, who spends his OWN money on a firearm, and if that thing has trigger slap, that WILL be remedied. Just sayin'...
