How good a year are you having?

Promised myself I'd get a tan this year. Hasn't happened. Still have a major farmer's tan and am afraid to 'deshirt' in front of human beings

About to write a $500-600 check for car maintenance, that coupled with fewer hours at work and gas getting so dang high ($3.89-$3.95 here, I know its much higher elsewhere) are leaving me with very few dollars.

I've just picked up a few boxes of defensive ammo for my Glock. May pick up a few more boxes and an extra magazine in August. Was thinking about getting half a case of 9mm for practice, but I haven't (and probably won't) have the money for it. May (read: probably no chance in happening) try to grab a decent looking Mosin 91/30 and a couple rounds for it at the next gunshow.

Health good. Relationship with GF (+8 mos.) good. Family good.

Hope everybody continues to do well, get better, get more money, etc.

Been good - wife still won't let me get any more guns (after the 5 from last year) but I'm eying a volquartsen 17 hmr - maybe next year if I get a bonus.
Daughter is 1st in her class and a senior next year so we are leaving next week for the great North American College Tour of 2008. God help me with student loans or scholarships.... Business is good - really good and I'm not worried about looking for employment for at least the next several years (I"m in construction).

What a wonderful ride.

I really don't buy too many guns anymore, but I did ad a stainless 5.5" bbl Ruger Old Army to my hoard. I'm also inviting a .38 Special/.357 Magnum/9 mm Ruger Blackhawk home soon too.

A decent year so far. Got a new dog, two new guns (XR-100 and Mosin Nagant), and will soon be getting my driver's license. Also got a whole lotta ammo.

Some good, some not so good, but overall a decent year so far. Haven't bought any new guns, but got back into reloading and now have a pretty decent stock of ammo, for a lot less money than store bought would have cost.
My mother in law passed away. (No mother in law jokes here, she was a nice lady who always treated me well.) After she was widowed, we had bought her a mobile home in a senior park near us about 5 years ago. After she passed we sold it and used the money to pay off debt. We are now almost debt free, and that is a good feeling. About two years to go on the wife's Harley (Mine's paid for) and about 7 to go on the mortgage and we won't owe anybody a dime. Yeeehaaa!
Job is going well, pays very well, and is about as secure as anything can be these days.

Im having an absolutely fantastic year this year...Started my Precision rifle accessory business(07 FFL too) and loving my H2 despite gas prices..Boohyah..I cant wait for the rest of the year.

decent actually

Pretty decent actually -

My Blood Pressure is finally down, my cholesteral level is acceptable, I'm down to 160lbs., and my wife got a promotion.
So I've purchased three Smith & Wesson revolvers so far this year:
A LNIB S&W Model 624 no dash w/ 3" barrel, Lew Horton Special.
A Beater S&W Model 19-3 w/ 4" barrel - it's going out for refinish.
A 95% S&W Model 19-6 w/ 2" 1/2" barrel.

So far, so good - :uhoh:

BP is down to 122/82, lost ten pounds (but gianed 20 last year), my thorough health screen for the new life insurance was tip-top, family is doing fine, paying my bills, cars keep running, jobs are still here.

Bought some guns, sold some guns, loaded some ammo, shot some ammo, fuel prices are tightening the screws on our budget for everything (Groceries are getting bad, too).

I am now to the point that my shooting budget is $0. I buy components, supplies, and new toys from the proceeds of my extra income sources, such as selling reloadable brass, recycling cans, hauling scrap metal, digging lawn mowers or bikes out of the trash and fixing/selling them, etc.

Been a decent year for me. The job is good, the wife is excellent, the kids were on the honor roll in high school and I have managed to buy a bunch of guns. Life is good.

In August of last year, I had to have open heart surgery. In November my wife suffered a near fatal ruputured aneurysum in her brain.

Fast forward to now. I was given a clean bill of health by my doctor, but told to lose weight. I'm walking three miles a day at least. I retired to take care of my wife, who is coming along quite nicely. Just recently she's started to walk without her cane or holding onto something/someone. She's even gone to the pistol range with me once and shot quite well. She's gotten well enough that I can leave her alone for a few hours, knowing there are neighbors only a few steps away who can check on her. I'm looking for a part time job now to (1) give us some time apart, and (2) pay for more guns. :)

Since I'm retired gas prices haven't bothered us too much. We pretty much stay home and watch the river roll by. Gas would be a major expense if I was still working, since I worked in Richmond and had a 156 mile round trip comute. That saving alone has pretty much paid for my retirement. We did drive up to Green Bay a month or so ago to see her son get married. Nice trip. Yankeeland ain't so bad after all. :D

There are a few more 22's around.

The Lord has truly blessed us this year. Praise to Him, from whom all blessings flow.

Down: Lost my dad last month after a 9 year battle with cancer
i'm in a service business and my income is down 20% from last year
no new guns

Up: Bought a 3 yo rav 4 to replace an aging VW
bought 2 beautiful custom knives at the Oregon knife show
all 5 kids are healthy and doing well in life
still making all the payments on time!

life is good, i try to remember, it's just money, after all

It's been good. I've lost probably 40 lbs. since January. Got a promotion and a raise, although the work is mind-numbingly dull. I've only bought one gun this year -- a Marlin 925 -- because I have a lot of other expenses that pop up. I managed to avoid the subprime mortgage fiasco by owning less house than I could have afforded, but still more than enough to be comfortable. In fact the homes in my area have gone up slightly in value.

Still single though, and about to turn 40, so the second half of the year looks to be a bit depressing.

P.S. AND THE CUBS ARE IN FIRST PLACE BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This has been a GREAT year.
I've lost 20lbs, quit chew, quit smoking, finished a tour in OIF, and added a few thousand rounds of ammo (not including the bricks of 10/22) PA-63, Romanian Tokarev, late model Chi-Com SKS, Savage Mark II, and a Ruger 10/22 to the family collection. I received orders out of CA that will be executed later this year and all-in-all it's been pretty good.

Let's see,

Money situation is ok, commute is only 20 miles round trip and I have a VW Diesel, picked up an SUV for a song, and finished my Master's Degree (finally!)

I have bought WAY too many guns this year. I think I am up to 8 for the year (either in outright purchases or swaps). Started reloading a bit, joined a .22 Bullseye league, bought some custom holsters for the Nagants in CAS, and for the most part enjoying life!

I got myself completely out of debt, I've got a good handle on the new job I took in November, and I found a new buddy to go target shooting with. I'm doing pretty good.

WULF- Sorry about your dad -I lost My dad In March !
I'm doing OK I haven't had a raise in 3 years But I love my job and will never have a job stress induced heart attack.
Bought a Norinco SKS with forged trigger and Threaded barrel for a Buck and a Half.
wife sells her flowers and has sold 3 grand$ in posies this summer.
If i did not have a tenant in the lower appt Id be in trouble and I watch every penny.
Wife wants to go to college this fall and we tried for a PELL grant but they turned us down as she already has a Bachelors degree:cuss:
We are Moving to KY from Buffalo area NY I hope The economy is better there [I know gun rights are ]
I'm Glad Most of us are doing OK sorry as Hell for the guys who arnt!
If you use tobacco --PLEASE QUIT!!!!! NOW!!!!

This year has been alright for me... bought my first AR(RRA entry tactical) bought a s&w j frame and my first M1 Garand from CMP is due to get here in a few weeks. So my collection is prolly the only thing that has been doin good this year. School sux and I am still single...least whenever i get lonely i can just talk to my guns! HA!

Things are going okay, but not quite as good as last year; I made a bundle in the stock market last year, but I'm down about 6%, ytd. Notwithstanding that, I've picked up a really pristine Colt Python Elite, an AK (my first) and a Walther/Interarms PPK/S in .380 - also in great shape.

I have a good retirement and no wife/kids (like it that way), so even without the stock profits, I'm able to socialize, take short trips and continue my piecemeal remodeling of the house - sorta like the Winchester house; I must never finish!

Most important: I'm still in good health, after all these years, and the prediction of my high school classmates that I would die a violent death before age 20. Haha, three fourths of them are dead already! :p

Thanks to all of you for sharing, this has been a very interesting thread.

Best of luck to all!

This year, so far, could be better. Didn't get into the college I applied to, and I'm not happy with the one I'm currently attending. At the moment, I'm just waiting for word on getting into an out of state college that I think will give me a better education. If I get in, I'll have to pack up and move pretty quickly. If I don't get in... well, I don't know what I'm going to do.

No new guns this year. Maybe this fall if things go well. A friend of mine (we got into shooting together) is expanding his collection explosively. I'm torn between being jealous, and looking forward to the chance to put a few rounds through the new hardware. I've already tried out his new Marlin .30-30 lever-gun and a cool little pistol he has. Good times.

The upside of potentially moving is that I'll be going to a state with far better gun laws than California, where I live. The downside is that the only people there I'll know will be my aunt and uncle. So I'll be starting fresh. Maybe that's an upside, after all.

well since i just got back from a 15 month deployment about 2 weeks ago, and since i just bought a mini van and a house, i haven't been able to add any new guns to the collection, but i do have a good bit of ammo, and even though i will be comming into some money in the future, i have decided that i am gonna spend it on ammo and lots of it, so as to get the joy out of the guns that i already have.

Actually, despite all the problems in the world, my little family is having a very good year. We bought a pop-up trailer, and I'm enjoying going camping with my little girls, we've acquired some new guns and I'm shooting more than I ever have, and the wife and I just took a Concealed Carry class, and will soon have permits. We have more fun stuff planned for the summer, and at least as of yet, we've been able to avoid money problems.

We're definitely making the most of our time and resources.

Great year so far! Making more money than I know what to do with! Bought 5 new guns so far this year and get to go to the range about 3 times a week. I bought a new house, SUV and a new vacation home in Maine. My parents were partial winners in mega ball last month so early retirement for my family is around the door. Gas prices are high but it dont bother me none. Country is having problems? Every paper says it and all the news stations talk about it but I swear I have no clue!

Lol...truth is we are hurting just like 98% of rest of the country. But we are in good health (thank the Lord) and we are keeping ourselves out of debt. (barring a short sale on a bad land investment...damn Florida real estate). There isn't much more I could ask for.

I would edit to add BUT I would like everyone to know,
MY WIFE IS EXPECTING OUR 3RD BUNDLE OF JOY. YAY!
