How Good is This Forum??

Is this because of the mod's or because of how you treat each other? What actually makes the Highroad a great forum?
Yes. :D A little of both. The mods keep us on track and set the standard but for the most part this is a good bunch here. Some of those other forums are just crazy. :( If all other firearms forums on the 'net dissolved, I might miss a few just because there are some very specialized forums that are useful for specific info about specific guns. If this one disolved, I'd be heartbroken. This is where I come just to shoot the bull and hang out. It's comfortable and sane here(for the most part :p ). If somebody get's out of line, they are usualy gently reminded by their peers, not stomped on. Folks here are genuinely helpful and friendly. This one is home.

Do the newbee's figure it out and leave if they aren't welcome, or do you have to "push" them out (in a nice way of course).
 I'm sorry, I honestly don't understand the reasoning behind this question. Why would newbies be unwelcome? This is a place for people to come and learn about firearms, self defense and the second amendment or to bounce their opinions off us for comment. As along as they do it in a civilized manor, anybody is free to disagree here. We've had blatent anti-gunnies post here to argue their points. I think we've convinced some the errs of their ways and with others we've agreed to disagree. In my experiences, the 1st amendment is as respected as much as the 2nd is here. So no, I've never seen anybody get asked to leave here unless they were just not willing to participate in a civil manner.

Dunno about you, but starting flame wars with a group of people that often own more firearms than their local police department isn't very appealing to me. :D

Good honest gun owners are welcome here. The riff raff often doesn't have much fun and anybody spouting off with incorrect information is weeded out quick -- though I don't think I've ever seen it happen. I do see a lot of incorrect statements on other "firearms" boards though.

Good honest gun owners are good people for the most part. I think that's what keeps the forum ticking.

I think it's the friendly waitresses and cheap beer. Or it could be that, while it may not be "the best" site on every specific firearm-related subject, it seems to be the best "all around" site. With a higher percentage of friendly and knowledgeable people than I'm likely to encounter elsewhere during the week.

If you can find a better one, I'll refund your membership fees!

The only other Firearms site I go to isCalGuns, and that's because California is a parallel universe with it's own laws of physics. This place meets my needs, and has, in fact, inspired me to better myself by going back to school.

Not bad for a "mere" Web site.

I'm still too new to presume to be family (think I'll hold onto that kidney, thank you ;) ) but this site is the one I look at first and last every day.
Your question made me think about it, and I'd have to say that the intelligence, humor and manners of the members are what drew me here........ and keep me coming back. A lot of interesting opinions and knowledge out there.
There are other sites I visit with similar qualities, so I'd have to say that the subject matter here is the deciding factor in my preference.
Any forum that has members quoting R.A.H. has the attitude and mind-set I can appreciate....

THR is my main hangout on the internet. I enjoy THR because it is run like a tight ship. There are rules and they are enforced. I have been to several other forums where the owner of the forum is too uptight to relequish control to anyone else. He is the sole Mod and people tend to get away with a lot of stuff. I like THR because it is consistant yes we have the roundtable, but other then that the discussions are all relevant to my interests. One of the other forums I am a member of a had thread that consisted of some kid talking about his love life!!! There were over 15K views and something like a 400 replies. I don't need that, I not looking for an online soap opera.

THR has a good amount of young people but they all act like adults. Very rarely have I ever seen anyone post something that I didn't think was apropiate. THR is staffed by grownups and all of the members here act like grownups. We have good sensible rules that keep things on track. There is also enough traffic here that getting help is easy.

This is the only place I know where I can get an honest answer to burning questions such as what's better a Glock or Colt 1911? Or what about
which is best: 9mm or .45?
Seriously, I'm a newbie to guns and the sport, but I find myself at home
everytime I come here. Great place and great people make it so.

cheers, ab
