How many CCW holder don't carry?

My dad doesn't, simply because he doesn't own a handgun--yet.

I don't (yet), because while I own the handgun, I'm working on getting a holster, and my CCW permit is at the Sheriff's office (and I'm at college out of state :(), but I intend to ASAP.

I would say to get your permit, even if you don't plan on constantly carrying. Why? That way, if you're going to go somewhere where carrying might come in handy, you CAN carry, rather than be like "oh, maybe I should've gotten my CCW piece, so I won't have to worry when I have to go to X location."

But, I would also advise you to start saving up for something to wear in the spring/summer months. In the winter, a "duty piece" may well be concealable (depending on where you live and your degree of "warmth-giving attire." I fully intend to pack around a 5" Government Model this winter--primarily because it's "what I have that works," and the local winter attire will allow me to while still keeping it concealed.

Hope this helps!

Actually, none of my friends who have CCW carry on a daily basis. Most of them got it to ease purchasing weapons. In NC, if you don't have a CCW, you need a handgun purchase permit from the sheriff to buy a handgun. In Wake, where I live, the permits are not much of a pain to get, and you can get them 5 at a time. That's several years of handgun purchases for me. :(

I haven't bothered to get one - carry would be very inconvenient for me - I couldn't pick up my daughter from school, drive through State campus, etc. There are also a bunch of stores I couldn't go into. For me, it would require a pretty big lifestyle change that I am not willing to make right now - the not being able to pick up my daughter from school if she got sick would be a biggie. The whole notion that I'd have to route my errands differently is not appetizing.

I`m in western NC and about the only place one can carry around here is in your own yard. If i am ever robbed "ect" i plan to sue big time because the CCW laws are so strict.

Huh? I am in Western NC and can carry most anywhere except schools, banks, municipal building, and places that sell alcohol for consumption on premise. I carry often on person, and almost always in car, and while I would like to carry anywhere, I do not feel too restricted considering. It could be like Illinois!

Were an open carry state here in AZ, but I have always thought having a CCW permit was just a good idea.

Whether or not you decided to carry CC is a personal decision.

I debated whether or not I wanted that responsibilty for a LONG time before I got mine.

Yeah, I wish they would allow you to carry on school grounds in order to pick up your kid. I understand not taking it into the school, I guess, but if you are legal enough to have permit, it should be legal to take anywhere. If I had to choose school property or resteraunt/bars to ban, I would say the place where you are drinking.

Always carry

Ive carried for a couple years now. Putting on my handgun has now become habit like putting on my socks, its part of the routine. Very seldom I run out for a quick errand and forget and I feel naked.

Being a school teacher I can't carry at work, and that takes up a very large part of my day. I also like to partake in a frosty cold beverage on the weekends and that means that on those occasions I am also proverbially naked.

True story though... Just last night I let my 12 year old daughter go into a subway by herself to get her some dinner. As I sat in the truck I had some serious tin foil hat thoughts about what I would do if something happened in there. (i didn't pick up my weapon when we ran up the street)

I got my CCW so I could carry a handgun in my car. I rarely carry a weapon concealed on my person. Usually only when hiking. Luckily I live in a very safe area.

I have only had my CCW permit for a few weeks and carry everyday.
I now would feel naked without a gun on me.

A quick story....
I was pulled over for speeding a few weeks ago, at this time I had my permit but not my gun. He let me know that I should ALWAYS have my gun because you never know when you will need it. Good tip coming from a cop.

When I was taking my class for CHL, I thought I would only carry when I "needed" it. I figured that it was just a nice option to be available. My instructor, who happens to be a 30 year veteran of a local police department and a police officer trainer for 3 local departments, convinced me that it's impossible to know when you might need it so you should always carry. The more I thought about it the more that made sense. Now, 6 months later, I have the gun from the time I get up till the time I go to bed.

A couple of weeks ago, I read in a local paper that a husband and wife were in their house one evening and a guy broke in and shot and killed both of them. You just never know if you are "safe" or not. Things happen when you least expect.

I wouldn't mind carrying but with kids in the house it just seems difficult to keep one around all the time while also having it locked up safely all the time. I mostly got it so I could drive with it in my range bag, keep it around while camping, and buy new guns without getting a new permit (NC law).

I never really carry. I usually keep a gun in the glovebox, but concealed carry in a vehicle is legal here without a permit. I just got my permit for the rare occasion that I'd feel like carrying, and just for the sake of getting it, so that if things ever change and permits go away, maybe I'd be grandfathered in.

and even a Kel-Tec PF-9 is sometimes difficult to carry in a comfortable AND easy to draw manner when you're dressed for an El Paso summer.
Certainly understand about the heat/clothes when selecting a CC. (I'm a few miles from you.) But like many of the posters indicated about never knowing when "the situation" will arise: at least place some caliber in the pocket.
I'm one of the rare one's that will place a heavy PPK in the front pocket. I cinch up the belt one notch to hold-up my britches, place keys/coins in the opposite pocket and don't worry about printing.:)

I love the "dangerous place" excuse not to carry. To me, anything can happen at anytime. I feel naked and anxious to leave when I do not carry. It is peace of mind to know you have protection. That is why I carry all the time.

why would you go to all the bother (and expense) of getting a license and not use it. if the pistol is the problem, get one that fits the need. if you just do not wnt to carry, or would be afraid to use it, just dont get the license.

Why get the permit if no intention to carry?

I find it hard to understand why someone would go to the effort in the first place to obtain a CCW permit - and then not use it. Seems counter-intuitive.

6ft toothpick with a full size service pistol...

Well, I suppose it really depends on your physical structure, activities, and mode of dress. I'm six feet tall, thin as a toothpick and have no problems concealing a full size service pistol (Sig p226) plus two spare mags. I carry with a vertical shoulder rig and cover with a light jacket. However, I'm fortunate enough to have generous arm length when it comes to reaching across my chest to draw.

It's also quite feasible to conceal just behind your hip with no more than a good shirt. Personally I don't because I spend the majority of my time behind the wheel.

Point is, you've got options.

Someone once said a scientist could pack a shotgun under a lab coat.
I suppose Joe Schmo could do the same with the right jeans and a cane.

If you haven't already seen it, check out The Prestige. There's a good lesson to be learnt about concealment.

If nothing else, ask yourself this. What good will your firearm do you or anyone else if it's locked in the glove box while you're being shot at in the middle of walmart? Might as well have spent the money on body armor.

Paul34, looked at your YouTube video, the whole thing....Quite long with my attention span of a 4 yr. old...:) Makes some good points for carry All the Time!

Suzanna Gratia Hupp

In 1989 Suzzana Gratia Hupp (sp?) sat in a Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen Texas and watched as a maniac executed both of her parents. she was less than 100 feet from the gun that she left in the glove box of her car because she couldn't legally carry it. The mad man walked right by the table she was hidding behind and presented a full back shot to her. By her own account she reached into her purse to get the gun when she realized she didn't have it.

She goes through Hell every day because she feels that had she been carrying the gun (admittedly illegally) she would have been able to save her parents.

I would like those of you that only carry a gun " when you need it" or "feel like it" or feel that it's "too much of a hassel" or " I'm just going to Subway" to put yourself in her shoes for just a second.

I carry a gun from the time my feet hit the floor to the time I'm in bed for the night. I don't ever want to watch someone kill those I love because I could have armed myself and chose not to

My dad doesn't carry:banghead:, my mom doesn't carry:cuss:, two of my brothers don't carry:banghead::cuss::cuss::banghead:, and all of them are permit holders:(.

I carry... everyday/everywhere.

I carry a P32 in my left front pocket except when it would be illegal to do so. It takes very little effort and is just like clipping on a knife and wallet. It is mighty comforting when I know I can just rest my hand in my pocket and no one is the wiser. I carry a G26 when I can but my keltec is always there. I know that trouble dont make apointments.

More than ever!

I have had a Fla CCW since the beginning and for many years did not carry on a regular basis. Usually had one in the glovebox and it was easier to buy at gunshows.
As I got older and times have changed, I carry about 90% of the time. My wife used to protest but as I pointed out various attacks and shootings in the news, she has changed her mind. Its become second nature to put my PT145 on when I dress...usually shorts and a loose shirt..hey..its Fla and I am retired.:neener:

Carry 'em...

I carry when and where it's legal, and within reach when it's not.

Prefer to be the Sheep Dog Rather then Sheep.
