Mr. Obama bin what ever your name is president i do not own any firearms. turns out i lost them on a boating trip in the desert.

I traded all of my guns and ammo for gas $$$ for my car when it was $3.50/gallon.:fire::cuss: I wish I had some guns now:( of course even if I had guns I can't afford ammo :D

I was once told that you could float test them. You know, throw them into the ocean and if they floated they were OK. It took me about two days to test them all. All of mine sank into the Atlantic.:cuss: Come to think of it Nancy was wrong about TABOR also.:D

The newest one I heard lately was

"My Ex wife stolen them from me during the divorce and she's apart of that taliban group from the middle east so I would'nt mess with her cause she might be a violent person that might us them"!

LOL!

well I took all of mine out shooting one day and as I went to put up the target, one of those surprise tornado's came out of nowhere and took my truck with all my guns in it and threw it onto this giant boat. I was so relieved but then the extra weight of my truck and all my guns sunk the boat. Amazingly the boat sunk just up to the tires of my truck thus ensuring the safety of my guns and my truck... until it got hit by lightning and burst into flame burning all my guns and my truck to nothing more than charred ashes. That's when the surprise twister picked up the charred remains and took it to God knows where. So I guess you can call it a terrible boating/twister/lightning accident.

In all seriousness I have more than 30 in the house right now not including my dad's and my brother's.

Just to interject some facts in case someone thinks the 15+ estimate is accurate - that number is on the "crazy/insane" side of accurate.

The "average" US gun owner has on the order of 2.5 to 3.75 guns each.

These figures can be easily figured by taking the low and high esimates of the number of gun owners (80 million, FBI estimate/ 100 million NRA "guesstimate") vs. the estimated number of guns in the US (250 million to 300 million - FBI and NRA estimates). You can google the methodology of the FBI and NRA to see how they got their numbers and definitions then factor such things as antiques/etc.

A safe and accurate statement would be that the average US gun owner has "about 3 guns."

I would imagine that if the sample were "how many guns does the average THR enthusiast" or "ex marine sniper" own, then it might indeed be about 15. But as an estimate of "average US gun owner," that's a terribly sloppy and poor estimate.

I think the number of guns owned by "average gun owners" (people that actually fire their guns periodically) is probably around 5. There are a lot of people that own a gun or two that are just stuffed away in a drawer, closet, attic, etc. that are "gun owners" but not what I would call an "average gun owner". And of course there are people that own 50+ guns that aren't exactly "average gun owners" either. That is just MHO.

Once I get a good rimfire rifle or two, a couple reliable defensive handguns, and a good centerfire rifle or two it gets hard to justify much more.
However, I would like to have a couple more rifles and a .22 handgun of some description. A Colt conversion replica also seems to speak to me for some reason. But I doubt I'll ever get much above 12.

Q:How many guns do I own?
A:I say not enough, my wife says too many. But the collection continues to grow.

Q:How many pair of shoes does my wife have?
A:She says not enough, I say too many. But the collection continues to grow.

Because the article I read said the average American gun owner owned 15 guns.

Average is the key word there. That means that for every person that owns only one firearm, there is one person that owns 29. Each person that owns 5, there is someonethat owns 25. And each person that owns 10, there is someone owning 20. Etc.

Being on a gun/RKBA forum, there's probably an abnormal amount of "above average" firearms interest, collectors, and professionals, when compared to the general public. So there will be an "above average" number owned per each. I would be interested in knowing the "real" average for all the members here. My guess is in the neighborhood of 25-35.

BTW, if the 15.1 is correct, I used to have a few of the 1 gun owners covered for the average. That was until the boating accident.

I use to buy three or four per year but I stopped counting about 15 years ago so I would not have to lie to my wife on the number. When she questions me now I can truthfully say I don't know and I can also tell her that the majority of weapons are old and outdated/obsolete.

I might have had about 40-50 right before that tragic boating incident...
I lost alot of my guns in Biloxi during Katrina.
