I always take my .40 and my 9mm, plus a rifle. I rotate the rifles between the SKS, 22 mag, .308, and Mini-14. About twice a month, I'll blast 100 rounds out of the 22/45.
I go to a somewhat local indoor range and usually bring two pistols. I just ordered a larger range bag last night so I can do this more easily. Sometimes I am carrying both that I bring, sometimes I am not carrying either one.
Well as many as I can carry in two trips with ammo is the amount that I most often bring. At least 3 rifles and 4-5 pistols/revolvers is an average. As far as ammo goes I carry as much as a 5 gallon can will hold without ripping the handle off most times. It is LOTS lighter on the way back to the truck.
When I go, it's kind of an event for me. I don't go as much as I'd like so when I go I bring most of what I have (only about 5 guns) and shoot them all.
took three shotguns, five rifles and two pistols today. As noted among others here, I do not get to go shoot as often as I used to or would like to, so I try to plan all day events that allow me to shoot my shoulder blue!
i typically take 3 or 4 rifles, and 2 - 4 handguns. and half a ton of ammo. at least it feels like that much when i load it! but then, i normally spend 4-8 hours there as well. i have on occasion just taken one gun, with one load, to see what it will do. but that is not very common.
