Due to the rules here in Washington...no scopes, no shotgun primers, I use a fairly traditional muzzle loader, the Sporterized Hawkins you can get on Cabela's.
Truth be told though, I am not a traditionalist in the strict sence, and I am leaning towards trying to find some fiberoptic sights...I have tried them, and in low-light conditions, they are a dream...please don't think bad of me...
I'm looking for one right now, got my eye on a T/C Hawken in .50. I prefer the more traditional to the inlines. Just my tastes. Something about the Hawkens just appeals to me.
About half a dozen Civil War replicas (3 English made Parker Hale Enfields - 39", 33" & 24" bbl, a Whitworth, a Sharps infantry and a Colt 3 band), I've got five firelocks (what flintlocks were called while the matchlock was being phased out) and am working on another. Also have one regular percussion rifle (my first muzzleloader). BTW, also have a brass beer can mortar.
BTW, the Oregon Gun Builder's Fair is coming up in April. I'll be there. I think it's April 25-27.
I have a few cap & ball revolvers, and an old Numrich Arms Hopkins & Allen Heritage model underhammer. I had a couple of flinters but they got traded off, need to get another.
I'm in the process of building my first. A lyman great plains rifle in .54 caplock. All thats left is to brown the barrel and some finishing work on the butt plate. I can't wait to shoot it. I'm already thinking I should build a pistol to match, and then buy a cap an ball revolver...and then.....
...a T/C Pennsylvania Hunter .50 caplock rifle,
Hatfield .50 flintlock rifle,
Springfield M1863 .58 rifle-musket,
Springfield M1842 .69 musket,
and a Short Land pattern Brown Bess .75 flintlock musket.
2 1/2 right now. A thompson Center Hawhin I built from a kit whe I was 14 and a 45 cal flint I built not from a kit last year, I'm working on a .50 cal Jacob Dickert Flint now, Just started and only have the barrel channel cut, I'm inlaying the breach plug now. Building these will make me as broke as buying new guns.
Not yet, but I do intend to get some - cap and ball revolver, flintlock type 'duelling' pistol and perhaps a rifle of some sort. Since they're virtually unregulated it seems prudent to have at least one.
Two Ruger Old Army's(One vaquero & 1 adj sight version) and a Stainless Steel copy of an 1858 remington "buffalo"
gunnwith adj sights (and an R&D conversion cylinder for each)
My 2 boys and I all have in-lines for hunting (T/C and Knight), plus an Army cap and ball replica...I'm looking for a nice sidelock for target shooting: a Kentucky style perhaps? Anyone out there own a Traditions rifle?
Got both in-line and traditional. Rifles and pistols.
Folks, you gotta try this if you have not already.
It is down right fun to tinker along loading BP, patches, sabots and then installing a cap or loading a flashpan and then, finally, cocking the hammer and getting a shot off. Loud bang, and lots of smoke. As my wife states, "It's a guy thing, tinkering with knobs and gages."
