How many magazines do you like to have for a given gun? Why?

For my semi-auto handguns, I'm fine with 2 mags, if it's a range gun only, or a pocket CCW.

For handguns that see home defense roles, or open-carry woods/camping/hunting backup guns, I like 3 or more.

For my go-to TEOTWAWKI guns (5.56 AR-15 and 9mm Beretta 92FS) I have 9 mags each. I guess I need 1 more mag each to get a nice round number of 10. It just sounds better.

I would recommend a minimum of three magazines per gun, as magazines can be damaged very easily, and the gun is useless without them. I prefer a minimum of six, but that is simply an arbitrary number that I like.

Mags per gun

@ least 5; preferrably 8-10.

These are arbitrary and capricious depending on my mood.

Any situation which could be foreseen as actually requiring more than one rifle magazine is the type to be avoided at all costs.
Being near a large herd of feral pigs might be an exception.
