How many of you do not have at least a case of ammo for most of your firearms?

How many of you have less than a case(1000 rounds) stocked for each caliber?

We get a lot of threads here talking about who has the most ammo, lets try this the other way.

Excluding those rare or expensive calibers such as 7.62 Nagant or 38S&W, etc, how many of your firearms do you have less than a case(1000rnds) of ammo for?

My target is a minimum of 250 rounds for each gun, when I near that I shop for another case.

The largest amount purchased at one time was 4500 rounds of 9mm one time when I found the price exceptional.

Shotgun rounds (field loads) are often bought by the case.
.45acp is bought by the case. When I'm down to a couple of hundered I order more.
.22 by the brick. Usually have one full and a partial.
.223 I have purchased case lots in the past. Not recently.

Other Rifles, shotguns, and handguns. I try to keep a couple hundered rounds for each. Sometimes more, some less.

Smoke

I buy .40, .45, and 5.56 by the case. I typically buy one case and then buy another as I get low. I generally have a box or two of everything else laying around, and buy what I need in preparation for a trip to the range.

I have a more then a case for each of my rifles. Most of the ammo is in the SHTF catagory. I only have about 500 rounds of each for shooting.

My pistols I only keep about 500 rounds for each(9mm, 45 and 357) for SHTF. Most of the ammo I have for them is cheap FMJ and that number changes week to week, depending on how much I shoot vs. how much I buy.

I can't AFFORD a case of ammo for each firearm, especially since I have memberships to two ranges now.....I shoot WAY more than I used to.

Well...ok...I dod have over1,000 rounds of .22lr:neener:

I try to keep as much 9mm as possible since I shoot that the most. It's mandatory that I pick up at least one box of ammo every time I drive past Wal Mart.

Let's see, on hand right now (I just went shooting on Thursday, so the stockpile is a little low):

.380 120 rounds
9mm 300
40S&W 000 (gotta' fix that SOON!)
.22lr over 1,000 - who the heck really knows or cares!
.223 80
7.62x39 10 (I don't normally keep any here for the sks - Brother Norton handles that for us. I don't know how this got here, but I certainly don't mind having it in case I need it)

I envy you guys that can devote more money to the ammo reserves. My wife would have a cow if she knew I had even this much ammo.

Sounds like you can't afford NOT to buy ammo by the case.

Nope and never will either, but I do have piles of brass, gazillion primers, and more powder and lead than you could shake a stick at. :D

Having 1000 rounds of relaods counts too! :)

Wow, some of you guys are low. I can't imagine actually running out of ammo for a gun. Then again, I get all kinds of uncomfortable when my car gets below 1/2 a tank of fuel or I don't have at least 2 spare rolls of TP in the bathroom. :p

I have the following:

4000 rds 7.62x39
3000 rds .45 (plus supplies for 5000 rounds)
1400 rds 7.62 x 54R
2000 rds 9mm
3000 rds .22
500 rds 12 ga.

The .45 and 7.62x39 are the only ones I really worry about...and I try not to let either get below 3000 rds.

I reload, so It's kinda hard to answer. I have enough components to be able to load 500-1000 rounds for each of my firearms. But, I generally only have 100-300 at a time loaded for my primary guns.
so I said picked the last option.

DMK, if I had a case of ammo for each and every one of my firearms...

Using your 1000rds/case estimate, that would mean I need at least 100,000 rounds of ammo. I could economize on some that are the same caliber, for example, my 10 rifles in .30-06. But at last look, I've got just over 10,000 rounds of centerfire ammo in the Gewehr98 inventory (25 different chamberings), and they're mostly handloads. Now if you know something we don't, like a bunch of blue helmets marching up the road really soon, share the info, I need to get busy at the reloading bench! ;)

I tend to keep a case for anything I own. Biggest thing I am low on right now is reloading supplies which I will pick up on monday.

Don't know why, but I always feel better with a case at least for each firearm I own.

Right now I've only got about 100 rounds for my Hi Powers.

However, I do have 12 mags for them that are all loaded... 4 more 17-rounders are on the way, and they'll be loaded too.

I figured out the other day how many rounds that would be just in the mags, and it was over 200. I'm content with that for now.

I keep telling myself that every time I go to the store, I need to buy twice as much ammo as I plan to shoot and save half for a rainy day.

Usually I try to keep about 500 rounds of each caliber in stock. For some it is easier than others of course, 357 magnum is a bit short now... :uhoh:

Only have 1 long gun. Yugo SKS. Have approx. 500rnds

Only 3 hanguns. 1 Springfield .45acp, 1 .22 S&W 622, and 1 Taurus .38 mod 85.

I have approx 800 rnds of .45 thanks to a Dillon 550, 1 500 rnd box of .22lr, and 1 50rnd box of .38 special.

Anyone want to make a donation to the ammo poor?

In a venue where you KNOW the alphabet troopers are reading every line, why would anyone post things like how much of what, that they have at home? I am no more paranoid than the next guy these days, but this is just not prudent.

Mannlicher, I'm really not too worried about it.

I have an FFL. They're halfway up my posterior already. Never mind the fact that I've been asked to go work for them after Uncle Sam retires me soon. ;)

Me. :)

I carry a magazine loaded of .45, a box of .45 and enough shells to fill the tube in my shotgun.

I'm not much of a believer in SHTF or stuff, and I feel adequate enough for home defense.

I do have 200 rds of .357 mag though, because they were on sale. Thats the only reason I'll have more rds than normal :p

I chose the last option...

Well, until Black Majic posted, I knew I would have the least.

Can we say 10mm is an expensive caliber too?;) (it is to a college student...)

10mm-- ~170rds or so. Thats only because I spent my state tax returns on Blazer & UMC.
8mm-- ~130rds. I really need to go shoot it sometime.
12ga-- ~200 or so. 185 of that is Fed ValPak #8's.
7.62x39-- ~150 or so. SP's and FMJ's.
.22lr-- 1 Brick. And I dont even own a .22. :scrutiny:

Anyone know how long an AK mag could stay loaded w/o spring malfunction?

I cant afford to buy ammo. The car is getting a timing chain next week, and I just bought a motorcycle...

I have 1,000 rounds or more of ammo for about 57% of the pistol calibers I own.

I have 1,000 rounds or more of ammo for about 57% of the rifle calibers I own.

Kind of interesting that the numbers are identical--it just worked out that way.

eh, about 1200 .308, i think around 800 9mm, somewhere around 1000 7.62x39, and probably 340 or so .223. I'd say somewhere around 6-700 12 guage varying between slugs and shot. And god knows how much .22lr. I'm having trouble finding a good deal on the the .223 anymore.

Cases of 9mm and .45 acp
Cases of .223 and .308
Case of Slugs/Buckshot
Cases of various 12 ga shot

Couple bricks of .22 LR
Hard to justify a case of .44 Mag :uhoh:
.38 spl, .38 +p and .357 mag probably total a case
I keep a "box" of 45-70 :scrutiny:

Seems clear what gets the most use, and what the plan is for SHTF
