At work, only one person knew who came up to me as he started work and said, "I can't believe it was five to four?!!!! Can those other four not read?"
I have been trying to inform others of Heller's importance. I belong to a music fan site where we've been discussing firearms and the Right to Keep and Bear Arms in the general discussion section. Funny thing is, the gun thread on there was started by an
antigun person but the three or so of us who are vehemently prorights on that forum have pretty much dominated that thread and have shot down(no pun intended) all of their leftist arguments. And I really mean
leftist and not liberal. they came out with some of the biggest pieces of horse hockey I have ever encountered. Stuff such as it is wrong to use violence to defend yourself because all it'll do is increase the amount of violence in the world.
I would counter by quoting the Dalai Lama.
...if someone has a gun and is trying to kill you it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun...
People even challenged me whether he actually said that so I gave them the source which was the Seattle Times and reprinted the entire article for them to read. Hey, if a Nobel prize winning pacifist can get it, why can't they.
So when Heller was announced, it came somewhat of a surprise that several other members who had never said anything one way or the other started to post their opinions, most of them on the pro side.
I'd say that it's important to not only espouse your views but to do it intelligently with as many facts to back you up. You might win a few people over.
