an entire university's worth of folks <sigh>.

I'm kind of in the same boat as ZeSpectre. I work at a large non-profit institution; lots of eggheads, researchers, and save the whales types. Gun magazines (the kind you read :)) are forbidden as too "threatening".

I am a delivery driver, 8 to 10 differant towns per day 30 to 40 differant people, No one knew. Not one single person knew it was in the supreme court to begin with!!!????

Out of the 8 at my firehouse, 3 besides me were aware of it, I was committed to instructing an in the field fire streams class in the AM as the ruling came out.

I also took the time to provide them a strategically timed break so I could get the tilt and log on to scotusblog for the results.

When I got back to the firehouse after training one of the inspectors asked if I had heard the good news.

Todays shift had 3 personnel that were aware of it also.

It is a shame that about 60 to 70 percent of the department had no idea.

They have no right to gripe when they refuse to get out and do something positive for their beliefs!

Two types in todays world, sheep and sheepdogs and I am glad to be of and share acquaintances with the latter.

Congrats on making history everyone.

And we have no right to gripe about it when they don't know because their peers didn't let them know.

Counter question: "How many people did you inform about the Heller decision and its importance to the civil right of self defense today?"

Touche, sir. :)

Well, most all of my coworkers, a friend, and some relatives. I need to do MANY more...

At work, only one person knew who came up to me as he started work and said, "I can't believe it was five to four?!!!! Can those other four not read?"

I have been trying to inform others of Heller's importance. I belong to a music fan site where we've been discussing firearms and the Right to Keep and Bear Arms in the general discussion section. Funny thing is, the gun thread on there was started by an antigun person but the three or so of us who are vehemently prorights on that forum have pretty much dominated that thread and have shot down(no pun intended) all of their leftist arguments. And I really mean leftist and not liberal. they came out with some of the biggest pieces of horse hockey I have ever encountered. Stuff such as it is wrong to use violence to defend yourself because all it'll do is increase the amount of violence in the world.:what:

I would counter by quoting the Dalai Lama.

...if someone has a gun and is trying to kill you it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun...

People even challenged me whether he actually said that so I gave them the source which was the Seattle Times and reprinted the entire article for them to read. Hey, if a Nobel prize winning pacifist can get it, why can't they.

So when Heller was announced, it came somewhat of a surprise that several other members who had never said anything one way or the other started to post their opinions, most of them on the pro side.

I'd say that it's important to not only espouse your views but to do it intelligently with as many facts to back you up. You might win a few people over.

I knew the case was pending for a long time, but I must admit, until I saw that actual name of the case was Columbia vs. Heller on Fox news, I really didn't know it was referred to as the "Heller" case....but I knew about the case at least :D
