How many people were y'all around today that had NO IDEA WHATSOEVER about Heller???

Here's one for you:

I was at Scheel's All Sports today at about 4pm MST. In the gun section. When I asked him if anyone had mentioned Heller to the "floor manager" for the department, he drew a blank look, so I explained it to him. He didn't know anything about it, and nobody had mentioned a thing.

All of my colleagues had no clue. Even one of my co-workers who is hunter did not know about it. What a shame!

Did they know about the child rapist ruling?

And why didn't you tell them about it? I mean, they're hunters. You're a gun person. Share and share a like? They're one of us, and all that...

My brother called me while I was on the golf course with a friend to tell me what the decision was. When I told my friend, he said he didn't care even though he is a shooter/hunter. I told him he was an idiot and then proceded to kick his ass at golf.

no one around me knew except the guy next to me at a training, and he only knew 'cause i told him. i had to call my wife on a break just to be able to talk to someone about the great news.

This afternoon I asked the fellow at the local Sportsmen's Warehouse if he'd heard about the ruling on Heller, and he betrayed a disappointing ignorance.

It is not just the sheeple.

To be prefectly frank, I have seen a lot of poeple posting on gun related boards talking about what Heller does and does not mean. I am pretty sure many of them had never even heard of the Supreme Court before last month....:what:

I'll admit to being rather clueless about the details of law and the Supreme Court until Heller.

As a result of this pivotal event, I've learned a lot of new terms, like "incorporation" and "strict scrutiny".

I think I understand the probable path for 2nd Amendment-related cases in the next few years...cross your fingers.

I might even understand why the 5-4 decision was not all that bad, and that the Chief Justice might have crafted a careful opinion that went as far as he could and still get a majority.

Yes, many of the people I work with were not aware, and they are hunters and CCW advocates. They probably caught up with events after work...

as a postal employee who only hangs out with folks at work who shoot . we all knew about it, all 3 of us. the rest of the sheep there
maybe texting obama love letters or something.

Most of my co-workers read that oil was at a all time high at 140$ and missed the Heller headline all togeather. Real sad!

Actually, this is embarrasing, but...
I've been following a little (I'm in Iraq) and I have read the decision, but I STILL can't figure out who is Heller, and what did he/she do, and what brought about the SCOTUS case? If you search "Heller" here, you get about a thousand threads, and none of them actually tell you about the original Heller case.
So, Me. I don't really know what happened. I like the ruling, mostly, but I don't know what brought it about.
I am, however, at war. SO I have a teensy-excuse.
Steve

This may come to a shock to some people here, most of the US population could careless about guns. Hell I'd be willing to bet most people could not mention 5 court cases and what they were about.

I work with a bunch of "gun guys" - not your "stereotypical" redneck type gun guys - and no offense intended to rednecks, they're some of my favorite people - but mostly professional & technical types. Interest in firearms runs high where I work, as we're a defense contractor and one of our lines of work involves R&D in advanced small arms. So naturally we attract engineering types with a passion for firearms.

Anywho, there was a lot of "thumbs-upping" and "high-fiving" going on around the office yesterday morning. :D

At least one friend knew. We were talking about it at my desk at about 10AM. After he walked away I turned back to my computer, hit refresh, and saw the news. I walked over to find him and he had just seen the news too. Happy day!

steveracer, for searching for info on the case, wikipedia is your friend. Search for Heller, then pick District of Columbia v. Heller. Or today, look in the In the News section. I notice it's the top news story as I post this. I wouldn't necessarily trust every word there written about it but it's a good place to get up to speed. And btw, thanks for serving! :)

Your sarcasm is noted, but one can't argue much about that statement. Yes, there are a LOT of "gun owners." But how many "count?" IE, how many are RKBA activists???

Down here, there's just a lot of head-in-the-sand "they'll NEVER outlaw guns" delusion. To say nothing of those that SAY they'd be content to just shoot it out with the .gov if it came down to it - but they won't lift a finger (ie, to send a form email to Congress) to keep things FROM coming down to it!

I'd add that the apathy about guns extends to quite a few other things political as well...

I don't know - maybe if we suspended the whole COTUS for a few years, people would wake up and quit taking so much for granted?

By the time I got back from the court house (yes THAT court house - because I got up at 4AM to get in line by 6:15) I had 2 voicemail messages on my line and 1 e-mail telling me of the decision. During the rest of the day I had 2 people tell me, and 3 people ask me.

Sad when a sports team victory, which is really meaningless, is a HUGE deal to the press and the society, but the definition of the 2nd Amendment gets a small stirring of interest. Sometimes I just shake my head in bewilderment at where we have our priorities.

Non- gunnies: 3, none of whom knew anything about it. When their reaction was "Huh?" I let it go. I quit mentioning it randomly after that.

Gunnies: 6, of whom 5 knew, one of whom I caught coming in to work and hadn't heard the decision yet, was jubilant.

The one who didn't know anything at all about it surprised me. He's into "big" guns which recoil heavily.

NONE, because I made sure they knew, ESPECIALLY the elderly anti-gun guy who borrows office space from us.

After hearing the news, he said "That's too bad."

I replied, "People said the same thing after Brown v. Board of Education. They got over it." :neener:

Only one person at my workplace had any idea that it was going on or what it was about. They simply do not care about these things. I swear, If they didn't pay me to be here, I wouldn't be.

-Mark.

Few people I'm around at work knew much about it. I really saw very little mention of it on the news before the decision came down, probably because most of them, like us, had a pretty good idea how it would turn out.
Pilgrim makes a good point... If we'd LOST Heller, the mainstream news media would be enthusiastically giving the issue EXTENSIVE coverage and CONSTANT analysis for days, if not weeks, afterward!
