How many rounds do you shoot per range session?

This is something I've wondered about a few times after reading posts of people shooting hundreds of centerfire rounds at a time. I don't really get that. Unless I'm sighting a gun in, I don't usually shoot more than 10-20 rounds out of a gun per session. Sometimes less, such as if I'm shooting a rifle and the first group out of it is satisfactory to me.

I don't see any point. Ammo is expensive, and I don't see what I have to prove by shooting 10 5-shot groups versus 2 5-shot groups.

Of course, I also live on a farm, so I can shoot every day if I wanted to. I don't have to travel anywhere and think in advance about which guns I want to shoot that day.

So: how much do you typically shoot per range session, and WHY?

I shoot more like you , very few rounds through most guns compared to the majority of shooters.

Although the most rounds I ever put through a gun in a single range session was around 300 through a MKII after getting it back from a trigger job. That was some years ago.

I shoot a little over 200 a trip on average, but my "range sessions" are competitions. And I am not that good yet...

I zero my scope at the start of the season with one 30 round mag. But that is cause I like to hear the steel ring and don't want to have to down load a mag or chuck it back in the bag and forget to top it off.

About 200 rounds, and I generally shoot at least 3 guns of which the .22s get the most use. And I almost always rent a gun which comes with a 50-round box of ammo. So the count might be even more than 200.

It depends on the gun and my purpose. I load all of my calibers. I also live on a farm and have a 150 yd+ range.
Normally my purpose is practice. Handgun rounds will be 100-200.
Rifle rounds 50-100. Shotgun, usually shooting clays, 100 rounds+
The point of practice is to become faster and more accurate whether it is 50 rounds or 500 rounds. When I was competing I would run through 25,000 rounds per year. Now it is closer to 15,000 rounds.
There isn't a right or wrong answer here. I may choose to spend my time and resources differently than someone else but that dosen't make either one wrong.
Actually I enjoy shooting ragged holes with a good rifle as I do with a good pistol or revolver. To each his own......

Oh, I'm absolutely not saying that there's anything wrong with shooting too many rounds or too few. Whatever floats your boat. Just wanted to know where the majority of shooters fall on that scale...

Typically 100 out of my every day carry, was the M&P .40 until last week... Now it's the Blackhawk .45 for the time being.

50-100 through the Schofield while I'm still playing with soft loads for accuracy and smoke control.

50-100 for the Missus' 9mm

50-200 .22's because it's fun.

50-100 of whatever other caliber has been brought by family and friends. Usually .38/380

I usually shoot a defensive pistol (1 box, 38, 357 or 9mm), an old timer/fun gun (7.62x25, 45 ACP, 32 ACP, 38 Spl., 1 box), then my MK II (100 rounds)...so, about 200. I have to go to an indoor pistol range, so I shoot more than I would if I could do it "out back." In warmer weather, I shoot skeet 2X per month, 100-125 rounds of 12GA per session. I haven't fired rifles (other than my 22) anywhere nearby as rifle ranges are inconveniently located.

At the minimum 50 rds per gun and at the max 400-500. Depends on the guns I bring to the range on any given trip. The belt-fed guns eat more than the rest, no felt recoil.

I shoot a few hundred for each gun that I bring, but then I don't get to the range as often as I would like, so I try to make the most of it.

I shoot about 100 rounds for handgun. I usually take 2 handguns to the range, and at least one rifle. When I shoot rifle I don't shoot more than 20 rounds through my .30-06 or .30-30.
For the handguns, I shoot mostly for proficiency, and since I load my own ammo the cost is minimal.

I clicked 201-500...thats centerfire, but that's all pistol caliber. I like pistols and pistol caliber rifles, easy to reload. Being retired I can indulge my one hobby. And since I started reloading it hasn't been a financial drag.

I also shoot a lot of rimfire, when ever I'm out shooting on the BLM land near my place.

I'll blow through 500+ rounds of rimfire per visit, but I don't shoot that many per gun, so I checked 201 - 500.

Today I fired 125 rounds even:

25 rounds out of the Mini-14, 100 yd target, prone position. Thats (5) 5 shot groups, good illustration of accuracy trends.

50 rounds out of the 9mm, SR9-C, had to test out my reloads, yeah baby!

50 rounds out of the XD-40, its just plain fun.

I reload all of my ammo, so I can afford to have some fun.

I usually shoot somewhere between 300 and 500 rounds. I generally bring a few pistols and one or two rifles. It's easy to burn up some ammo when you bring multiple firearms.

Shooting .22 will probably be 500+. I usually buy the 500 round bricks three at a time.

Anything else I shoot is around 300-400rds all together. I take lots of toys to the range along with friends.

2-3 guns, 3-5 mags out of my pocket gun. And 1 box out of my carry. Then usually 1 box out of another gun I brought. I have 4 carry guns, they all have to take turns. This way I know that I can rely one every one I own, all the time. Also I leave one out for the wife if I am not home, so that's 3 out most of the time. She like Glocks because she dosen't have to do anything but pull the trigger. I leave it in a holster that is made for it, so she can't touch the trigger unless it's meant to be touched.

Looking at my log it is about 300 per session,. 3 sessions per week in the winter. Drops way off in the summer because there are more fun things to do.

I have a 125yd range on the farm, and it's not unusual that I will shoot, well... one, with a rifle. More often, five or so. It's hunting practice.

With handguns, It can be 18 to 50 at home. Even when I go to the FOP range, I seldom shoot more than two handguns in a session, so it's usually well under 75 rounds downrange, practicing at 10yds and 20yds. I'm usually just getting worse, not better, after that, so it gets less satisfying.

Shooting ARs, AKs, SKSs, and/or Mini-14s with my 14 year old son will change the equation though, and we may blow through a hundred rounds each, just for the rapid-fire blasting that he still gets a real kick out of. We still shoot two, or sometimes three maximum, guns per session. Just my preference.

I usually shoot 150-200 rnds per practice session.

This is true regardless of weapon type.

I do a lot of practice with .22 revolvers and .22 conversion units for the auto pistols & my AR-15.

Most of the practice courses I shoot are 30 or 50 or 60 rounds, so usually my total round count is 150 or 180 or 210, depending upon which courses I was shooting and what I was practicing.
