How many rounds have you fired in your lifetime?

Someone asked me this question the other day and to the life of me its a hard one to figure out.

Not that means anything of how good or experienced shooter you are, 1,000 properly aimed and fired rounds means more than 10,000 poorly fired, spray and pray rounds.

With that said, I have been shooting for over 24 years, I pulled my first trigger at 4. Adding up all the shotgun, pistol and rifle ammo I have fired as a civilian and all the ammo fired in the Army. I guesstimate mine at about somewhere between 12 - 15,000 rounds.

The military bumped my numbers up big time, having had to qualify numerous times on the M9, M16/M4, M249 and M240b and M2, the machine guns really added to my estimate. I once put out 1,500 rounds of 7.62 nato in one day on a 240b.

So what are yours?

Good question. I'm probably in the same ballpark (maybe a little higher count) unless you count BB's and pellets. That might be another 50%. I practically slept with my BB and pellet guns when I was a kid.

This year marks 40 years of shooting for me.

Well, lets see. When I was younger I was shooting a couple of hundred rounds a day to practice. Then I shot bows for a while. Then I got back into it and now I'm going through somewhere around 6-10,000 a year. So. . .move the decimal point. . .carry the two. . .uh. . .a lot.

Wow, I've never thought about it. Some years during college I only fired probably a thousand or so per year. Other years I've shot well over 5,000/yr. I am guessing somewhere between 25,000, and 50,000. Now if you want to talk about bb's as a kid, I would have to label that in pounds of bb's shot. Maybe tons would be more appropriate.

I have shot the barrel out of my 9mm twice about 25000 rounds, .38 at least 15000 rounds, .40 4-5000 rounds, .223 3000 rounds, .308 2000 rounds, .22 woh can guess, shotgun again I cannot begin to guess, various other calibers ?? I guess I should just say a LOT.

Well, 20 years in the Marine Corps as an armorer and then another 20 years as a cop..................a bunch.

There were slightly more than a dozen years where I fired a 1000 rounds a week; that alone accounts for over a 1/2 million. Leading up to those leaden years the consumption was 700-1200 a month; a lot like it is today. Bought my first guns at 18; I'm 52 now. Conservatively, 8-900,000.

After 51+ years of shooting with very few weeks gone by without firing a shot? I honestly wouldn't have a clue. I didn't waste many on target practice from age 7-17 though. (my slowest 10 years.)

Since some of my "spray and pray" was suppressive fire against armed targets, I'll count 'em along with all the rest.
sometimes "proper aiming" will get your head removed.

I agree, I have put out some suppressive fire as well, but it was directed and in controlled pairs.

It really is an interesting question once you begin to ponder it.

sure wish I woulda kept track of every round down to those little 22lr's and .410 bore shotshells from the first time I shot at aaaage 8?(Very rough guess). Sure would be cool to know the exact number instead of guessing and hoping that you're within 10k rounds of what you've actually shot!

I used to buy bulk .22 lr by the case of 6250 rounds for under $100. Those go fast. Those who know me from here also know I shoot target shotguns, one of which is somewhere in the 150,000 range by itself; it isn't hard to shoot a lot, it is hard to pay for it.....so I reload

When you think about it, however, someone like Kim Rhode, US Olympic Gold Medal Winner in trap and skeet shoots 1,000 rounds per day, every day and has been doing so for almost 20 years

since I've been paying for my own ammo, so about 10 years, at LEAST 45,000 rounds. That's just form my records of expended reloading components and larger factory ammo orders.

As a child, all things considered, including .22s, probably about 5,000

In my lifetime, probably 12,000-18,000

Not a clue. Started shooting back in the 60's, shoot lots of .22 (several cases per year) and a fair amount of centerfire, so it's probably a pretty high number.
