How much ammo do you usually carry with your CCW?

I think it would be awesome if someone set up a shoot house/course that was to be shot with the same setup that people carried.

Yes, that would be very cool. Especially if they set up most of the courses to require the number of shots that most real-world defensive gun uses require (zero, or one, or two).

It seems to me that the smart money is on putting most of my energy towards the things most likely to kill or injure me. Being a mild mannered programmer living where I live, an entire platoon of angry zombies ain't one of those things. I'm glad I live in quiet neighbhood.

Ba-ha! I know, but read about the murder in the area!

If you drove through where I drive, you'd pack 220 rounds too. The average response time for the police there is over an hour. :) And remember, in summer, it only half the ammo. Gangs rule the roost where I work.

Read the post I made about the last gang to attack on campus. It was (I think) 13 members. Campus "insecurity" stood there and did NOTHING while they beat the student in the head with a tire iron. They left, and returned 10 mins later to beat him more. Same results.

I guess I work in the domestic war zone, and I can not carry "on campus".

Come walk in my shoes for a day.

I was a wee bit sarcastical, wasn't I? Sorry about that. Yeah, it's all about your situation. Hey, come over to the desert, and we'll go hunting where the cactii are the biggest threat to life and limb. I carry an extra magazine when I'm in the desert, 'cause I want to shoot to death the next cactus that has the gall to stick me. ;)

THE REASON

THE REASON FOR A CCW IS FOR YOUR SELF PROTECTION OR TO PROTECT OTHERS IN A UNEXPECTED SITUATION. DONT GET IN THE MIND-SET OF HAVING A MAJOR SHOOT-OUT YOU ONLY NEED TO STOP THE THREAT OR CREATE ENOUGH TIME FOR A ESCAPE.

glock27 with 1 extra mag most of the time.. 9+1 and another 9 mag = 19 rounds in .40

sometimes i take out my glock21 with 3 mags. each being 13rnds. 13+1 plus 2 13's = 40 rounds in .45

i would hope to think either or would be enough..

8+1 in a 5" 1911 plus a spare 8 round mag on an off-side carrier at minimum, sometimes another mag in my front left pocket. 17-25 rounds.

One pistol, two load outs.

My carry gun is a full size 1911. Only pistol I carry. So, it's either 7+1 and a reload (7) or 7+1 and two reloads, depending on situation and dress. For me, the two mags sticking straight up from my beltline are harder to conceal than the pistol.

Oops, no intent to be critical; just observing the conditions described sounds like Iraq situation (that does not have to be Iraq but it was the first to come to mind). If I had that to deal with, might do the same.

Several different answers:

1. Primary 12 plus reload 12, secondary 10 and bug 7 = 39
2. Secondary 10 plus reload 12 and bug 7 = 29
3. Primary 12 plus two reloads 24 and bug 7 = 43
4. Bug 7 plus two reloads 14 = 21

Depends on the weather and what I'm wearing.

I carry 12+1 in the USP, with 2 spare mags. 40 rounds total. Of course this is when I am not at school; school is a "gun free" zone, even though it is stated in Oregon laws that a CHL holder can carry at a school or college.

10+1 in the gun, 2 15rd reloads

41 for you people with poor math skills

Glock 21 .45

13 in the weapon, 2 spare mags.... total of 39.

I really don't want to discover that a 'good' neighborhood has turned 'bad' without having extra ammo

34, 2 17 rd Mec-Gar mags / SIG 226-9.
24 as soon as I add my .40 226 to the card.

It depends.

I've switched to carrying a Beretta 92FS for my primary CCW so that means 15+1 plus two 15 round spare mags. So, 46, generally. If I carry my Glock 19 as back up, it adds an additional 17+1 rounds. (w/G17mag) So, 64, total, on some days.

I'm amazed that, as evidenced in this post, so many people leave the house with so few rounds.

Don't be so surprised that people carry so few rounds. Not everyone feels the need to be loaded for bear all the time.
My load-out consists of 6 rounds. No reloads. Most of the time.
