Hi all-

This thread got me thinking, and now I'm idly curious.

If you have a CCW (or don't need one to carry where you live), how much ammo do you carry with you? The gun's capacity? A spare magazine or speedloader? More? A lot more?...

Usually just the 1 mag in the gun - 10 +1 = 11

In a typical scenario where I was robbed, that should be sufficient. I know I should carry an extra mag, but I only usually do that if I am wearing a shoulder holster usually

depends on the gun, commander gets 2 spares, the P12 or the 6903 get one spare, either way about 21-24 rounds. (total, including what is in the gun) My cars usually have at least a box of 9mm and a box of .45 in the trunk too. My briefcase always has a BUG to match the caliber of what i carry.

10 in the mag, 1 in the chamber

kel-tec p11

I was thinking of buying 12 round mag for my pistol

I don't really think having extra clip is as important as having an actual gun with the clip in it :)

But if I'm going into a really bad neighborhood, then packing extra clips might give me some additional peace of mind. For most social situations one clip with around 10 rounds is enough I think.

I carry a compact .45. The mag holds 6 plus one chambered. For several months I've been carrying two extra mags. Probably more than necessary.
Mark.

The GLOCK 27 carries 9+1, and I used to supplement that with another 9-rounder. Now I got post-post-ban 15-rounders (they are GLOCK 22 mags, which fit the subcompact) so I carry another 15 rounds. Total (including those loaded in the gun) is 25.

I think that *ahem* oughta do it for whatever I might encounter and have to survive through.

10+1 in the gun and 15 in a spare mag. Probably don't need the extra mag but it does balance the weight a little better on my belt.

EDIT: Just read the thread you referenced. My choices are based on the neighborhoods I live and work in, which are about as safe as they come. I lived in L.A. for 25 years and in East L.A. today I would not feel comfortable in less than body armor and a tank.

I always carry at least one spare magazine. Some malfunctions can only be cleared by dropping the mag, and said mag might slip from your grasp and fall to the ground.

So now your magazine is covered in dirt, mud, or lost in the darkness. Time to load up the spare.

I take more ammo the further away from home I expect to travel. If I'm going somewhere overnight, I take three total magazines full. I only have three full-cap mags for each of my pistols so that kind of colors my thinking; occasionally I'll bring a ten-rounder along as well but that's more anti-zombie thinking than anything else.

So, with the smallest magazine capacity in my current pistol arsenal being 12, I step out with no less than 25 rounds.

Generally, no less than 26 rounds. If I'm cycling, only 5- 10, as I carry my .44 special then. If I'm headed somewhere like Eugene or Portland, I might carry an extra mag, or even a second gun with several reloads. At that point, I could have, oh, 80+ rounds on me(more for the ability to hand off a gun than anything else). I also have several hundred rounds boxed in my vehicle at any given time. It may sound paranoid, Hel, I KNOW it does, but I figure it's better to have than not have, and need it. I'd hate to get dead for lack of ammo, after surviving without CCW for years.....:uhoh:

how much do we carry !!! it may depend on what u have ,what u kind of cloths u have on, and how good of a shot u are. most gun fights happen with in 25 ft and only about 3 to 5 shots are fired .i carry a glock 22 and iver 38 cadet a full mag and 5 in the 38 I have never have been in a gun fight and hope that i never will, but i am going to be prepared if it does happen and pry to the good lord that i win there is no real anwser to how much what kind, how big of a gun .a wise man said ( never bring any thing that doesnt start with a 4 jn 15:17 protect them from the evil one ;) :what:

Depends which gun. Always one in the tube and a full mag, plus one extra mag.
Kahr k-40 6+1 and 6
Sig p229 .40 SW 12+1 and 12

If I'm going out with the Glock 31, then 30rds...1 mag in pistol and 1 spare
If it's winter and I can comfortabley conceal my Springfield Operator, then 24, 1 Wilson 8rd 47D in the pistol and 2 spares. All loaded with 230gr Golden Sabers.

Right now, 17 rounds. Sig 239 (9mm). One in chamber, two full mags.

If my Smith 649, at least two reloads (15 rounds total).

Of course, if I'm joining one of the local P.D.'s for a search warrant, it's a Glock 19 with 54 rounds, and the 649 with 2 relaods (15 rounds) as a BUG. ;)

I usually just carry what is in the gun. I know I should carry more ammo, but it all get so heavy and I doubt I will need more then ten rounds. Since I am usually pretty close to my car I do keep extra mags in the car but rarely carry them with me. If I go to a place that I deem high risk I will usually carry 11 in the gun plus another 14 rounds in a spare mag on my weak side.

Depends what I'm carrying...

Glock 23 with 10+1, and a spare 15 rounder = 26rounds of .40 S&W...I carry this whenever I can get away with it(read as: conceal it properly like winter or night).

Taurus PT-145, 10+1= 11 rounds of .45 APC...Carried when the Glock won't conceal(read as: 3/4 of the Texas year).

PDW AR-15 pistol, 30 round mag soft points, plus one spare 30 rounder of FMJ = 60 rounds of .223...Carried for when the SHTF and I can't get home to a long gun;).

Too Many Choices!?(are a good thing :neener: )
