How much do non-gunnies shoot?

alot of gun owners i know buy a handgun, shoot it soon after buying it and then never again :(
ive even offered to them to take a range trip with me... they make an excuse.... i about 3000-5000 rds a month... alot is .22 lr but youd be suprised how accurate you can get shooting so much :)

If my family is any valid indicator, it probably doesn't get shot much. My dad has had a Taurus 92 for about 10 years, and I'm sure it hasn't seen more than 1000 rounds.

1000 rounds thru a BHP is nothing. I'd call 1000 rounds break-in. FWIW, I've already shot about 2000 rounds of 9mm this year, all through my BHP. Don't worry about it.

Most people who buy a pistol put maybe 50 rounds through it and stick it in a drawer.
I'd bet that most don't shoot it at all before storing/carrying it.

I have seen folks show up to CHL renewal classes, unload their carry ammo they last loaded in the gun 4 years prior, shoot the quals, then reload their carry ammo...not having shot in the last 4 years.

When I was in Alabama I had access to a friend's place and also to the hunting club that I belonged to. I could shoot as often as I wanted and pretty much did.

But, since moving to GA I have to pay to shoot. And, it's really not as fun shooting alone, so I don't shoot very often anymore.:(

I was in a gun store about ten years ago when a lady in her 40s came in and bought a S&W Model 60 Chiefs Special .38, and exactly 5 rounds of ammunition. The clerk tried to convince her to purchase several boxes of ammo and do some target practice. She stated that it was for protection, and that she needed only five rounds of ammunition.

I would almost wager that her unfired Model 60, with that same five rounds of ammunition, is still in a nightstand or sock drawer to this day. What a shame.

Just my .02,

My dad hadn't owned a gun in years. So, three years ago, my brother and I decided to buy him a Glock 22C for Christmas. We headed out to my buddy's ranch to do a little plinking. He put every round out of a box of 50 into a soda can, which started at 5yds, and ended up at 30yds. Content, he cleaned it up, loaded it, and put it in the nightstand.

If he ever shoots it again, it's because somebody broke into the wrong house. :)

Some years back I was in my local hardware store, and some guy came looking for ammo for his new revolver. He was highly annoyed that he couldn't buy just six rounds, he didn't want to buy a box of 50.... :uhoh: Suppose it's better than trying to buy just one round.
