I just bought a remington model 7 7mm08 20"barrel put a DNZ scope mount with a Leopold 3-9×40 weighs right at 6.5 lbs loaded. I hunt off the beaten path so I wanted something light. It my favorite rifle. Every time I go hunting i can't keep it in the safe. Love it.

Nice. My go-to hunting rifle for many years was a Model 7 in .308. I replaced it last year with a 7mm-08. My Leupold (also in a DNZ mount) is a 2.5-8x36. You have good taste!

My primary hunting rifle, a Mauser K98 rebarrel .280 Rem old style Shilen 22" "medium" contour, Richards thumbhole claro walnut stock, Burris FF2 3x9, Leupold steel mounts, minimalist M1907 sling and uncle mikes swivels, 5 rounds of ammo tipped the scales at 10.3lbs. I'm totally fine with this. This rifle is mostly for stationary hunting, and I'm a pretty big guy. A lighter rifle feels "whippy" to me, and much of my shooting on whitetails in broken woods tends to be from poorly supported positions, I deliberately chose a heavy, well balanced rifle to suit my needs. The weight, balance, and thumbhole grip combine for a very stable shooting platform under such conditions. Feels just like touching off slow fire standing in a CMP match with the M1 when I draw down on a deer.

When I do go brush stomping, I reach for a mosin carbine. It is still relatively heavy, but significantly shorter. It's disassembled right now in need of a scope base repair, so I can't scale it. My other brush gun is a Ruger Blackhawk, so no weight concerns there..

My Sako 30-06 is 7.7# unloaded with a Leupold 3-9X40 in Tally lightweight rings. I put a lot of mountain miles in with it and find it comfortable to carry but heavy enough to settle down in field positions.

My deer "battery" OTD (out the door) weights on highly calibrated kitchen scale:

REM M7 .260Rem with HS Precision stock and Leupold .2.5-8x36 in Talley LW mounts: 7lbs 5.8 oz

Nosler M48 .270, Leupold VX6 HD 2.2-12X42: 8lbs 5oz

Rem 700 .300WM, Leupold VX3 4.5-14x42, B&C Alaskan TI stock: 8lbs 5.8oz

Rem M7 .350Rem Mag, Manlicher stock, Swarovski PF Hunter 1.25-4x28: 7lbs, 15.8oz

I don't know what my deer rifles weigh. I can guess that they weigh in at about 8.5 #.

Rem 700 sps 7mm08 24" barrel with Nikon bushmaster 2 4-12 x40, Caldwell 9-13 bipod and leather gi style sling.

M11 savage 223 22" sad profile barrel, 3.5-10 x50 Leupold vx3l, Harris 6-9 swivel bipod and leather gi style sling.

I was way off on my guesses.

I’ll have to admit I have never weighed any of them, kind of afraid to now. What if I do and realize they are too heavy to carry anymore? ;)

I do know I have rifles that I may walk around with and others that are “stand” rifles that may be lugged around with a wide padded sling.

Hell, I don't know. My fave is my Remington M7 Stainless with 3x9x40 Weaver in Millet mounts. I know my old 7 mag Savage with 3x9x44 Weatherby Supreme would be a great boat anchor and in my younger days, I crawled all over the Guadalupe Mountains with it. Now days, I just sit in my box blind and open an eye once in a while. :D
