I have the opportunity to buy a Benelli Super 90 M3 and I wanted to know what they are selling for.

I would also like your opinions on the gun.

I have seen them for $900-1050 or so depending on stock and sight options.

My buddy has a preban, but it has rifle sights and I prefer the ghost rings. I don't have much use for the pump option, and I wrote it off because my criteria for a shotgun is that it has a dedicated weaponlight, so that rules out pretty much but the Nellie M1 Super 90, Remmy 870, Winnie and Mossy.

I'd get the M1 S90 if you wanted an auto, but I'm waiting for someone to come in saying "So what does the M3 do that the M870 can't do, and for $300"

Hope this helps somewhat.

Just picked up my M3 on Friday, and absolutely love it. Paid about $1K for it before taxes.

Skunk, so what does the M3 do that an 870 can't?

You got your wish. And I'll be repeating the question until you answer it.

Yeah, about $1k here too. Best price I've seen within the last 5 years is a pre-ban (used, but in near mint condition) for $850.

I have seen current post-ban as low as $950 in NE OH (NIB).

The M3 I normally shoot seems to not eat as well in semi-auto as my shooter M1. It has had problems eating low recoil target loads bought in those bulk pack slabs (Winchester and Federal). In this type of situation, I just simply switch over to pump and continue on. Shoots fine with full loads.

To contrast, the same loads (from the same boxes) fed without a hitch through my 1187.

So, in order to not have to move one's arm back and forth, one pays the best part of a grand.

Go ahead, it's your money(Snort,chortle)....

Certainly a pump/auto is not really a necessity and more of a novelty, but, IMO, it's no different than buying a 996 turbo over a Civic. And if you can have both, why not?

The M3 was conceived for law enforcement, the original idea being that semiauto would be used for normal operations and that the pump action would be used for specialty rounds that won't cycle the semiauto, such as beanbag rounds.

Turns out though, that when people developed repeating firearms, such as pump shotguns, they got themselves a rate of fire and a capacity that was high enough to handle most unhappy social situations.

While a mag fed shotgun, firing from a 20-round drum, semiauto and full auto, with carbon fiber, titanium, and a holographic sight, would be more modern and high tech than a pump shotgun per se, there are very few situations that it will handle better than a pump shotgun. I mean, hell, most of the time a Winchester 97 would do the job just as well as the most modern shotgun.

In other words, Skunky, the M3 may be more modern and tactical a plain-jane 870, but the advantage it offers (semiauto fire) is a very small one, especially given the cost difference between it and an 870/1300/590A1.

It really says something about firearms development. A lot of the things we cooked up a hundred years ago are plenty good for any unpleasant encounters. The weapons are better now, but people themselves are the same soft, chewy centers as ever.

Regardless, it's your money. The M3 certainly is bad*** looking, and you'll probably be the only one at your range to have one. So, if you dig it, go for it. But Skunky, I would've though that you'd dig the HK FABARM semiauto more. It's HK, after all, and it's available with a CARBON FIBER finish! And it's got the weaver rail for installing sights. I don't think the standard semiauto comes with a rear sights, though, for some reason.

Nightcrawler...why you addressing your post to me? I was answering him, but have no need for an M3S90. Actually I looked at the HK shotgun, but the carbon fiber model only comes in plain-jane. No optic rail, bead front sight, no mag extension, etc. Just comes like that :(

If it came with the works I'da had one by now :D

Huh...so you weren't. For some reason I thought you started the thread. Got finals this week, what can I say? I'm all out of sorts. (Speaking of which I'd better study for that Psychology :barf: exam...)

I can't tell you what's up with HK not offering the features on the Carbon Fiber Finish model. You'd think the "plane jane" version would the be the one that didn't have the carbon fiber, and the gussied up version with all of the doo-dads WOULD have the better finish.

I've been pretty tempted by the HK FABARM (pump, with mag extension, ghost ring sights). It looks cool and has gotten good reviews. I found the controls of the Benelli Nova unfavorable to a lefty, so that ruled that out.

Failing everything else, I'll probably just go with a Mossy 590A1 20". Until then, my $200 ghost-right-besighted Norinco will do.
