Well, I have a few thousand in Leupold Optics as well as an gubmint surplus ART-II (Leatherwood), a couple of Tascos (SS & SSM), a gubmint surplus Lyman Alaskan and two M-84s (one still new in wrapper).

I'd have to say with the reloading equipment and safes it has to be close to $45,000. I know that there are a few toys that I still want in next few years that will push it past $55,000. Remember guys this is 26 years of gun collecting. So it works out to about $144 a month, $33.55 a week or less than $5 a day.
As far as types go I went for quality. The cheapest guns go my four cheapies are my Bushmaster pistol .223 ($225), Ruger Mark I ($200), Winchester 1200 winchoke 12 gauge ($200-250) and my Remington 870 3 inch mag 12 guage ($350) next was my Sig 230 that came in at $400. Nothing else under $500 and nothing over $6,800 yet. :what:

How much money do you have tied up in guns?

More than I probably should, and less than I'd like.

What I've spent on hardware, counting mags, and guns I've sold for less than I spent (obviously only using the difference between what I paid and what I sold them for) since all that goes into the overall cost of my guns I am between $6000 and $7000. Only on guns I still have (and no extra mags counted) it is about $1000 less.

Add in storage, cleaning supplies, reloading gear and supplies, range fees and ammo and I could have easily bought a (nice) new car on what I've spent in the past 3-4 years on shooting. And most of that time I was a substitute teacher (no wonder I am so broke  )!

Enough to buy a much nicer truck than what I'm driving, but one simply MUST keep their priorities straight, mustn't one?

I am currently a quality over quantity kind of guy right now, it makes it easier to 'splain to the wife. Now, if I were still single and without kids, I would certainly be a 'quantity OF quality' sort.

Since I've got over $7k tied up in a Uzi I haven't even got yet, I'm safely in the $10k-$25k range. I'd guess about $12k in guns, $2k in reloading equipment and supplies, and less than $1k in ammo. I'm also spending at least $1000 now in gunsmithing equipment and parts and my safe cost $4k. Geez that's already $20k! Phew, good thing the wife hasn't seen this! :uhoh:

Some impressive numbers for sure.

I've got one gun right now which I paid about two bills for, but am hoping to add to it around xmas time.

cheers, js

I am currently at the high end of the 5-10k range but will be in the 10-25k after christmas. The wife is giving me an EBR of my choice since the AWB is dead. :D

I just can't decide what I want since I want one of everything. :D

Hi everybody, In the words of antiques roadshow, replacement value or auction value? But it isn't just the initial outlay it's the upkeep. I seem to accumulate magazines which should get cheaper now. There is the yearly range fee and of course the ammo. If I shoot 500 rounds a week of 45+9mm that's 50 bucks a pop.

Oh man I gotta learn to reload.

There've been plenty of polls about how many guns you have, but how much money have you got tied up in them? If you have an STI, an AI, and a Benelli, you probably have more tied up than someone with 30 or 40 C&Rs.

Yeah, well, I sold my HK91, Daewoo, and AR-70 so I could buy more crusty old cheapo C&R's. ;)

(A hint: You can sink a buttload of money into old C&R rifles. Priced a good Argentinean Mauser or a Krag-Jorgensen lately? Like Okiecruffler said, there's a good bit more to C&R's than $50 Mosins. :) )

As far as how much I have tied up in guns, well, that's a good question. I keep a spreadsheet of my collection, for serial number information and suchlike, and also include a rough "fast sale" price for the guns. Although the total fluctuates a lot due to buying and selling and updating prices due to market forces (My byf '43 98k recently took a nosedive thanks to that flood of russkie imports,) it hasn't dipped below $30k in years. This doesn't, however, accurately reflect the amount of money I have "tied up in guns", as accessories and gunsmithing aren't accurately reflected in that total. I don't think I have a 1911 that I haven't put at least $150-$500 in modifications into, but that doesn't get reflected in the total, nor does reloading gear (a little) or ammo (a lot).

I still consider myself as being in the "poor college student" category. I've got to stop keeping track of all my expenses because it hurts to see what I've spent.

I'll consider myself smarter than the average "poor college student" :) (w/ $10,000 in guns??? dayumm, can I come live with you??) 'cuz I stopped keeping track a while ago; thankfully I was never strong in bookkeeping skills....I'd guess in the last 4 years I've poured all my extra money into this addiction....I just recently guessed the value of safed stuff as enough to buy a nice car, and that's not including any of the reloading stuff :(

In the next to highest group -- but that is real easy if you have been doing this stuff for over 3 decades!

Darn, suddenly I am starting to feel old! :(

I give up. I quit counting when I got to over $3k in scopes and then thought about ammo on hand and mags.

If I decide to depress myself at some point and tally it all up, am I supposed to count what the gun is worth now or what it cost in 1963, 1972, 1985 or whenever? Assuming of course that I can remember what I paid for something (in some cases, such as gifts, it was zero.)

I think I'll just vote $10 to $20k and move on to something else. You know, that might not be enough. I have almost $4k in a Cooper rimfire, a Kimber GM .45 and Colt WWI repro.

John

I could have bought another GT 'vert mustang! Only 6 years into the hobby and I'm dumping around $400/month :( I wonder what I would own if I wasn't a gun nut? Electronics, cars, planes?

I am somewhere in the $3000 to $3500 range. It's a lot more than I expected. I don't have all that many, just three centerfire rifles, a rimfire rifle, a blackpowder rifle, two shotguns, and four handguns. I'm in the process of building my first AR, but I didn't count the $150 worth of parts there. I also have about 5k rounds of various calibers and probably $300 worth of powder, primers, and bullets for reloading.

What restrains me is lack of time or facilities for shooting. If I move to the country or close to an outdoor range, I'll probably add a bunch of guns.

Chris
