How much AMMO do you have?

What is 5 years worth of ammo? I can not see the relationship between time and the number of rounds one may have. I have single shot rifles as well as belt fed weapons that will spit out 450+ rpm. I could burn up a couple thousand rounds in a day if the mood struck.

What would we need ammo for? I thought that we were protected already. OK, I'll confess that I have a single bullet that I carry in my left front pocket. :neener: :D

I just buy bulk packs at the range. I keep around 50 rounds or so of HD loads for my HD guns, plus whatever special hunting loads I have left at the end of season. I have been wanting to do a bulk order on .223, and .45acp lately though. This will probably change when I get into reloading someday when I have the time.

Zero rounds! When I get it, I shoot it right away no matter if I have 150 rounds or 300 rounds of 8mm I stay broke...I think it's because of all my friends that come with me :p

Not enough...some moron keeps shooting it!

Oh, wait, that was me shooting it up. Scratch that comment.

I usually try to keep 1 magazine loaded around the house, somewhere.

have hundreds of rounds of ammo for guns I DON'T have

Yeah! how does that work! I was going through my shop the other day and counted almost 700 rnds of ammo for calibers I don't even own! Man I've got to buy some more guns!:banghead:

Right now, I have about 180 shells for my three big-game rifles, 300 for my .223, 150 .40S&W, and 320 12ga.

And an 50-round box of .22LR for the .22 I'm going to get someday.

So somewhere around 1000 cartridges of various sorts. It's just an estimate, as I'm not very good about keeping ammunition sorted. There's some in the ammo drawer, some in various backpacks, some scattered within my rig, etc.

I've got a brick and a half of .22LR somewhere or other, and about 350 rounds of 7.62x54R waiting to be used up like the 530 that went before it to that great backstop in the sky, courtesy of my Mosins.

Moving from CA to Oregon around March of next year; expect to buy lots and lots of guns and lots and lots of ammo to feed them. For now, I'm keeping busy with the Mosins and a couple of .22s.

Mosin Nagant, enough to last me a while, although I do need some good SP rounds for deer season.

FN FAL, enough rounds FOR NOW, maybe I'll buy more later?

9mm? Oh yeah, not going to have to think about that one for a while.

.45 ACP? Is 500 rounds considered low? I look at it and I frown.

12 gauge? Nothing, only birdshot, around 400 shells. :(

Let's see......
2500 rds. of 7.62x51 Aussie '90
1500 M855
1000 M193
500 Win. 9mm
125 Speer .357 Sig
80 12G. 00 Buck

I'm sure i have miscounted a few.... I still need more though!!!!

hmm... well, let's see what I have that would qualify...
20rd of 7m rem magnum -- never used it because I don't have a rifle in that caliber
5ish of .410 shotgun -- I don't own a shotgun, and this is old paper hull stuff from ???
2ish of 20ga shotgun -- same as above
200ish of 12ga shotgun -- I should have my very first shotgun by the end of the month, and this is my "larnin howta shoots it" supply, but again never used any
hmmm... what else... 5 .308 nato, 10 .45ACP Rimmed (though that's borderline 'cause I've used normal 45ACP) ... I think that's about all I have lying around that I've never used.

I have a bunch of fired brass in calibers I've never used because I've always been in the habbit of policing up whatever good brass I could find regardless of type when at outdoor ranges. 30-30, 50AE, 45/70, 444, etc....

Other than that I don't keep much ammo around. I only have half a box of 9mm left, and that's mix-n-match of JHP, ball, and truncated cone. I keep wanting to order some bulk ammo but shipping's been a killer. I'm probably going to have to put in an order before the end of the year though. :(

Lets take a look...

.22LR: 500rds
.223 Remington/5.56: 1570 all together. 300 handloaded in various cases and weights, 1000 Wolf 62 gr that I just got in the mail, 120 remington 55gr soft point, 150 British SS109 62gr on bandoliers.
.308 win/7.62: Only 20 rounds of South African 148gr 1980s production.
.30-06: 40 rounds Federal 180gr Powershock SP, and 100 rounds Olympic 150gr FMJ and I think I have a box of tracers somewhere.
.375 H&H: 40 rounds Federal 300gr cape-shock, trophy bonded bear claw
12 gauge: 100 round box of Winchester target load, 8 shot.

45 ACP about a box and 1/2

um

i remember a thread like this a year or so back. guys posted pictures of their castle magazines. piles and piles in boxes, ammo cans, belts.

I thought to myself, "that sure would be nice to have.. but I could never afford that."

Well, looky-loo.

I've gotten to the point where I no longer consider the purchase of ammo as an expenditure on my CC statement. To me, it's just the transference of one type of commodity into another. Given its shelf life, and its extreme resistence to obsolesence, I think I'm right. After, that round of 7.62x54R is just as useful and live as it was when it was made - in 1946.

All my "modern" ammunition is stored in .50 cans. All of my "relic" ammo is stored in their original wooden crates, except for the swiss which is tidily packaged in a cleverly folded little black cardboard box. Now there's a bit sickness - I'm currently waiting delivery from SPG of the leather ammo briefcases that the Swiss army used to keep their ammo well, presentable.

Is that 5 years worth of deer hunting?

5 years worth of shootin' practice?

5 years worth of competitive shooting?

5 years of depression and no tax money to pay for police?

Or 5 years of kicking tyrants off their throne?

All of which are possible.

If you don't believe me, think about 9/11, Katrina/NO and what would happen if terrorists knocked out the North American electrical grid for a week or more.
