How the Brits "Dumb Down" on the Gun Issue

the younger generation was systematically indoctrinated to hate and fear firearms and those who own them

I once asked a younger guy in england what he thought about gun control. I asked "How do you feel about the fact that you can't own any guns?". His response was "How can you miss something that you've never had?". This seems to confirm what your saying.

Lots of folks in the UK think of americans as sub-human. To them, were all a bunch of monkeys and our guns are tools used only by monkeys. If they were to pick up a firearm it would be a step backwards in evolution. I, for one, will sit back and laugh as the number of people getting stabbed rises higher and higher as their gun laws get more and more strict.

You wouldn't really believe this....

Up until the 1970s or 80S(I think, but can't be sure.)Small-bore target ranges were common sights in many leisure and sports centres in the UK and indeed in many Public Schools(both bording and ordinary.)But nowdays such centres that once had these wonderful facilities, have now either long since shut down or have had the ranges removed. The only places where you can use small-bore weapons thesedays, is in clubs or in shooting-leisure centres like the Lord Roberts Centre in Bisley.

Barry George-the eccentric weirdo who was convicted of murdering British tv presenter Jill Dando-went to a bording school for children with behavioural problems. In 1971 that school built a small-bore weapon range for pupil and staff usage.Unfortuantely kids talk as you well know and when some of parents herd from their kids that the range was built, some of them began to complain to the school about allowing kids to use guns etc,etc-so the range closed down in the following year-in 1972.

It was likely that Barry George used the range for classwork and recreational use and where some believed he developed his passion in guns. The gun he used to alledgedly murder Dando with was-I think- a converted Bruni Colt 1911A1 8mm,blank-firing gun and the bullet was a remington-made 9mm short-bullet-that was believed he stole from a gun club, following the dissolution of some clubs, several months after the Dunblane massacre.Note that this case has been used in campaigns against blank-firing guns.Even Senator Robert Kennedy's assasination-was used as propaganda by the GCN antis,to discourage handgun ownership in the UK.You will find that the handgun ban is listed on their website,as one of their greatest achievements to date.

Its hard to explain why people in the UK hate guns, but I doubt that it has to do with the influence of anti-gun propaganda, generated supposidly by the government. The UK is small compared with the USA and Australia and most citizens, like the one that DevLcL questioned about gun-control,are either generally not bothered about weapons ownership or are against private-weapons ownership. Those sheep left themselves open to attacks from the antis, who would easily get them to join their cause. That is one of the reasons why-I think-you will find that most people don't want them in the UK and that is civillians talking not polititions.Us UK posters here that were born and raised in that wonderful country  , were and are not brain-washed by our government at all.The pressure came from the antis-who were a sizeable majority and there are pro-shooters from all walks of life as well.:fire: :cuss: :banghead:

There are still however,a large percentage of the UK population, who still are ignorant of the gun-laws in the UK and if told about them, they would want them banned. If you're a gun owner in the UK thesedays, basically the cops and fellow citizens might think you might or might not be a timebomb waiting to explode-by shooting up a selected town or even a designated building,as demonstrated by mentally-unstable individuals-who caused killing-sprees in past- gun massacres.

Well said as usual, sterling180. Just a few things I'd like to point out.

It was likely that Barry George used the range for classwork and recreational use and where some believed he developed his passion in guns.

Didn't know about this. Where did you find it?

Even Senator Robert Kennedy's assasination-was used as propaganda by the GCN antis,to discourage handgun ownership in the UK.You will find that the handgun ban is listed on their website,as one of their greatest achievements to date.

It isn't listing it that bother me, but the fact that they consider it something to be proud of.

Its hard to explain why people in the UK hate guns, but I doubt that it has to do with the influence of anti-gun propaganda, generated supposidly by the government.

The Mothers against Guns organisation is funded by the Home Office, so it's not so much supposed as it "is".

Exactly. I think it's sad that smoking weed is considered social*, where responsible ownership of guns is considered to be something that must be ended by the most irresponsible laws** imaginable.

*Not that I have a problem is it, just don't pass the toke to me.

**I consider "responsible" laws as those that prevent criminals getting guns without denying the law-abiding the same. Or if it must, at least giving something of equal significance back.

I found out about this, by reading a book written by the once infamous bank-robber-now reformed-smooth-talking writer-Mr John McVicar, who wrote the book 'Dead on Time',which was named after one of the songs from the first Highlander film-written and performed by Queen. It was explained that George had an unhealthy obsession with Freddie Mercury and everything to do with fame,magic,etc-but George loved Highlander relishingly and it was also believed that he executed Dando-on her door step-by shooting her in the back of her head,as the characters did in Highlander,to kill the immortals. Now regarding his time a school-there is no actual conformation by anyone who went to or taught at that school, but George did attend the school when the range was built and it is most likely that he did use it along with the other boys in his year.Like Martin Bryant,Barry George has not explained his actions fully to anyone, since his arrest and so this has to be regarded as speculation,-until it has been confirmed by someone with proof. But I think that it was very very likely that George developed his interests on this range.

The Guardian newspaper has also stated that George must have used the range as well, because it was built in 1971,when he was 11 years old in year 7. I don't trust McVicars account of the events leading up to the fatal-shooting of Jill Dando, because he is biased and blames the slightest problem on George-despite the mans (George's) sheer and utter buffoonery, during the course of his past 35 years of life-prior his arrest.

Schools in those days were encouraged to take up shooting,in competitions like any recognised sporting discipline, especially in Private schools and posh public-schools in those days. A gun was treated like a bow and arrow or an air-pistol.I have also read in countless editions of the Target Sports magazine, where one of the shooting journalists- Chris White, has said that small-bore target-shooting existed in some types of schools and public leisure centres in the past-like in the 1950s,60s and 70s.This was marketed as a cheap sport for the masses to enjoy, instead of paying serious sums over for centrefire cartridges.

As for the funding of the GCN-well this explains why the campaign to restore pistols is still being delayed.Tessa Jowell comments, on handguns being allowed in the 2012 Olympics were:"Well I don't think it's going to be a problem, but we have to reassure the public".Public=GCN and other anti-weapons idiots-in other words. The government should reassure us shooters that they have no intention of restoring target-pistol shooting-because they are pally with the GCN and thus fund them.So my advice to them is:"Stop sending Hazell Blears to the Basc conferences,to negotiate a solution, when you were and are indirectly funding the GCN and had no intentions of upsetting your allies in this semi-annoying organization"-by restoring handguns back to Section 1 status.
