Belgium 2011-A man obtained an illegal automatic FN FAL and granades and killed 6 people and wounded 125 others while on a rampage. Guns are strictly controled in Belgium.
FRANCE 2012- A man killed 7 people on a shooting rampage. Police found an automatic Kalashnikov in his apartment. Guns are strictly controled in France.
Norway-2011 Gunman kills 76 people in a country that has VERY strict gun laws.
Mexico-Drug cartels have killed hundreds if not thousands in a country that has banned guns.
Denmark 2011-6 people killed when a man shot them with an automatic weapon. Guns are strictly controled in Denmark.
Britain 2010- 12 people are killed in a shooting rampage. Gun violence is on the rise and is up 14 percent in Britain as crimnals figure out how to smuggle them and build zip guns. Gun laws are very strict in Britain. Most handguns are banned.
Germany 2009- 15 killed in school shooting. Guns are heavily regulated ...I could keep going...

All those countries did was take away the option for the law abiding citizens to protect themself.

Good points.

One thing--handguns ain't banned in France. I don't know why people keep saying they are. The pistol the guy had was obtained illegally, though (surprise, surprise.)

Whats the punishment for bringing gun into school in US?

I'm going to go out on a limb  and say that all those signs & consequences of carrying a gun onto school property only stop the law abiding.
It's not like some nut job is going to drive to a school with the intention of shooting a bunch of people, see the sign posted on the door and think, "Dang it! Now I'll have to go find some place without the sign...". :banghead:

The real impact of those signs :scrutiny: is that they prevent a law abiding person with CC permit from having the means to stop a criminal.

To be fair single events are not proof that some of the above country's gun laws are ineffective if rates of incidence have gone down. One would not look at automobile accidents and say seat belts don't work because some people died.

No, but I did have a coworker show me a chart in Brittain pre- and post-ban of knife and gun murders. She was proving to me how gun control works to lower "gun crime", and it did...knife murders went up and overall murders were the same. However, with a total ban on guns, there were still about 1/3 the murders commited with guns - why isn't that answer 0?

Just to clarify - like Shear_stress pointed out, hand guns (pistols and revolvers) are not banned in France, or Germany, Norway and etc. from private ownership (except England). One can posses a hand gun, but if he wants to carry it he must apply for a CCW permit. And that is the tough moment. In my home country hand guns are heavily regulated too, but everybody of legal age and without police record can apply for a permit. And they usually get it. Furthermore, when one gets a permit to acquire a hand gun it almost automatically means that he will be given and a CCW permit. Despite the "heavy regulations".
So, it's not only black and white here in the old socialistic world.

Ah, come on CDW4ME. Think of all the times a person intending to kill a lot of people has gone to a school, seen the signs, and decided to shoot up the people at a rifle range instead.:neener:

Apparently you've never been to Norway. I've lived there a few years, shot hundreds of matches, etc. Their gun laws are not "VERY strict." Prior to 80s they didn't even bother to 'register' guns.

You only 'proof' is a lone nut that managed to shoot plenty of teenagers in an island, a youth camp. I doubt there existed a single person in Norway that thought those teenagers and their teachers ought to be armed.

I'm sorry, but your post is asinine. I let the other posters address the rest of the countries in your list. BTW, handguns are not banned in France. You wanna chat about that in French?

And how many people paid with their lives for thinking that?

then they point out that USA has over 9000 gun murders each of the last several years and how that number far surpasses any other "rich" country in that category.

How is a "gun murder" any worse than a knife murder or an ax murder?

Murder in the United States is mostly concentrated in certain socio-economic groups, and associated with other things -- like drugs.

The solution to reducing the murder rate (and it has been reduced, dramatically, in the last couple of decades) is to deal with the socio-economic and drug problems.
