How to know if you're ok for NFA stuff?

Can you buy a .22 pistol? If so, then you can buy machine guns IF your state allows NFA items and IF you can get the CLEO sign-off. But there are ways to get around the CLEO sign-off, so that's not really an obstacle even if they refuse to sign it.

$$$ is the major obstacle.

Cheddah, what else are friends for, but to dredge up embarrassing situations?

Fair enough, but since we're friends, could you loan me $100? :p

Sure I can buy a .22 pistol. Could you elaborate on how to get around the CLEO in case there is a problem?

That's why the BATFE has the CLEO sign-off requirement. Righteous outrage aside, getting that signature (along with all the other background check stuff) assures that all is well.

The worst they (CLEO and BATFE) can do is say no.
(And if they do, you can follow Mr. Heller's example.)
