I posted this with a different title that I realized might not get many views. I'm closing the original and hoping the new title will get some responses and not scare folks off with too specific of a request. I hope this is okay with the Mods/forum rules.

I'm considering selling my PM40. I have never sold a gun before (and it pains me to sell this one, but I could use the $ for another gun) and don't know how to price it.

The pistol has about 500 rounds through it. Kahr reccomends a 200 round break in period, but this one took more like 300. I was frustrated with it up to that point, but the last 200 or so have been flawless. So you'd save a whole bunch of $ on break in ammo and I assure you this one runs well.

I've got the original box and paperwork, and the two factory mags (a 5 round and a 6 round).

Other stuff:

Grip enhancement [~$10]:

Never installed- new in packaging.

Buds is listing the gun for $667, and MSRP is $837.

I am one of those guys that gets annoyed when I'm looking at used stuff and the seller wants darn near full retail for their item. Now sitting at the seller's end, I'm feeling that the ammo costly break in should have some value.

What do you guys think for a price? And why that price if you care to elaborate.

Thanks in advance.

As a general rule your "enhancements" add nothing, may even detract if you don't have the originals, except perhaps for the sights.

Used guns priced at about 75% or less of the current production model generally moves well at gun shows around here. If you are not in a hurry, you might get ~85% of new if its in pristine condition.

I gave $350 for my Kahr MK40, used when the PM40 was selling for about $550 new (people wanted the newer, lighter model a lot more).

MSRP is mostly wishful thinking for things in full production and widely available. Bud's prices set the upper limit for me when I'm shopping at gun shows (gave up looking at GunBroker for price ballparks a long time ago).

If it were in my store, I'd want to be able to sell it for $500. Like a previous poster said, the additional items often don't add much value.

You could always put it on gunbroker and you will find out just exactly what people across the country are willing to pay for it currently.

I would put 95% BB value plus 50% value on extras which would come up to about $500-- $525. You can trade it up to another gun but you will take even bigger beating on price.

This.

Another general rule of thumb I've held to since the 1970's is that a brand new weapon loses at least 15% of its value the second it walks out the gun shop door.

Thanks for the input guys.

I didn't really think the extras would add much value, but I sure wont have any use for them if I sell the pistol so they'd get thrown in. No value should be lost because of them since the only thing "installed" is the agrip and that could be removed and all traces gone in 5 minutes. No original parts have been removed/altered.

The gun has one tiny scratch just forward of the ejection port and some brassing on the top-front of the ejection port. I can't find any other flaws/blems.

One can easily purchase a PM40 for less than $570 new. If you're selling local, you might get $500 with the extras but be prepared to accept lower offers if you want to move the gun. There probably aren't a ton of buyers who want a .40 S&W the size of the PM40 so you're looking at a bit of a limited market.

Less than $570 for a new black slide PM40? I'm definitely going to have to find some more sources when shopping for my next gun. I thought Buds was kind of the gold standard for the price to beat.

Mods- feel free to close/delete this thread. I got consistent feedback and have posted the pistol in the WTS subforum.

To all those that responded, thanks for your input.
