While my local newspaper does allow classified ads for firearms, they have certain specific models and types that are not allowed. So other than posting here in the "For Sale" section, any ideas for how or where to post a gun for sale?

(And I'm not interested in trading it in to a gun store or pawn shop where I'll be lucky to get half what it's worth.)

Many gun clubs have bulletin boards where folks can post for sale ads.
I know where you are coming from, a little north of you and the local paper says no handgun ads or assault rifle ads, but hunting rifles and shotguns are OK.
There are some free Floridainternet gun trading sites as well you can post

Armslist.com is a great source. In the past several months it's become my go to place for buy, sell, trade. It's like Craigslist for firearms.

Outside of a few of my local sports stores are corkboards for posting ads. Of course if it was the same where you live then you probably already thought of this.

I would specifically not use the news paper unless you have a method of contact and location to meet that is both safe and not directly related to you.

Paper classifieds are dinosaurs anyway. Search around and I'm sure you'll be able to find local swap and sell boards. Google shows many of them to consider. Obviously you will likely have best luck with the most active ones.

If you're worried about the legal and practical details, consignment is another option but you will have to give up a chunk of the money to the store.

Here in Utah we have a local news station that has an amazing classifieds web site that I've bought and sold very regularly from. Maybe there's something similar in your area? It's KSL.Com/classifieds

If our local paper had that kind of policy I would go see the editor and cancel my subscription in person.

See if there is a backpage.com for your area. In the Phoenix area we use the sports equipment section and there are dozens of listings a day. Works and looks just like Craigslist

Um...
right here on THR. All you have to do is take some photos, post the gun, and price, and location, and SOMEONE will buy it from you. The very hardest part would be to have to drive it to UPS hub and ship. (I know, CRAZY)

Online message forum.

I just use the for sale ads on a site such as THR, or on a smaller/local site.

I have done this with four firearms so far.

+1 for local gun forums. I use Seattleguns.net since I am near Seattle. There is undoubtedly one for your location. They are very effective.

I have favorable experience with GunBroker, though I wish I hadn't had to do it. :banghead: They do charge a fee - obviously they have to, to be or stay in business - but you will still come out far ahead of selling or trading to a gun shop. Another possible alternative is letting the gun shop consign your gun(s). Some of them charge a pretty high fee - 25% or more - so do some checking first.

Plus 1 for armslist.com .

Since last October I have sold all the firearms that I have collected over the past 30 years(except for my 1911s) and did not have a single negative experience.

A really valuable resource, and free.

Here are a few that I sold.

Since you are in Florida, why not put it on Florida Gin Trader? There are 1,600 active listings for Central Florida alone. I have successfully bought and sold through that website several times.
