I bought an Arsenal SAM-5S rifle, and need to send it back to the factory for some repair. Since this is the first time for me, I am wondering how to send it.

The representive in Arsenal inc. said that I just simply send the rifle to them via UPS and there is no any paper-work I need to do, and they could send the rifle directly back to me. However, I remembered that one guy in the gun store told me whenever you ship or receive a firearm, you must go through FFL transfer. So I am really confused here.

So how to send a rifle back to factory for repair? Is it as simple as sending ordinary products, or as complicated as having to go through the FFL? Is it different from state to state? I live in Connecticut.

Thanks!

Believe the guy at the factory, not the guy in the gunstore. UPS, USPS, FedEx, whomever can get the rifle to Arsenal, and they can send it directly back to you. An FFL is almost never needed to send a firearm anywhere. If you are shipping to a buyer from out of state, an FFL does need to do the receiving.

"An FFL is almost never needed to send a firearm anywhere" I think you meant to say: An FFL is almost never needed to send a firearm anywhere FOR REPAIR.

I just take mine down to the local post office (yes, in a box!) and ship it for repair. No muss, no fuss. No big deal in FLA.

Poorly worded on my part. The sending party does not need to BE an FFL, nor does he need a copy of the receivers FFL(unless the sender is also an FFL). Out of state shipments must go TO an FFL holder.

Just from the word, doesn't this mean that the factory cannot directly back to me since it is a out of state shipment and I am not a FFL holder?

If you send it for repair they can send it back to you directly with out a FFL transfer. I also thought (and I may be wrong on this one), that you can ship directly to a buyer of a firearm as long as it's in the same state you are shipping from. FFL only needed for out of state transactions. Correct?

It's rather simple.

I just sent, and received back my Glock 20 for repair. Glock gave me all the info I needed. And yes, we were transacting across country (state lines).

To ship a firearm without involving third party FFL transfer documentation, either the shipper or the reciever must have an FFL. In this case, it's a no brainer. On the outbound shipment, the recieiver will have an FFL and on the return, the shipper will have one. Make sure that you can be home when the return shipment arrives. it will require an adult signature, preferably yours.

Ship via UPS, and go through one of their main offices, not a subcontractor like the "UPS Store". Make sure the carton/box can be sealed, and secured AFTER UPS has had the opportunity to inspect. Make sure the address label "ship to" name is obscure enough that UPS employees wil not be intrigued enough to "accidentally" take your package home thinking they got a free gun. Glock told me to use "G.I. Inc" instead of "Glock". Make sure the carton in no way indicates that a firearm is inside.

Declare the firearm to UPS. They may require that you ship only by UPS NEXT DAY AIR, but I think that is only for handguns.

It's that simple.

1) I've sent handguns back for service via UPS and yes you must declare its a handgun , pay for over nite air, and I also insured them "just incase-someone thought it was their birthday. /These were shipped directly back to me after repaired from manufacturer.

2) I've sent a handgun to glock for the "frame recall", after repair this had to go to a dealer W/ffl, of my choice since they added an extra digit to the serial #. amazing though the dealer said didn't need to be re-registered since I had the original paperwork and the new repair paperwork- :scrutiny: I'm still pondering that though. But he knows best.

3) had to send a rifle back for repair at manufacturers cost, this went Ground/normal shipment 3-5 days.

* All went through UPS and came back UPS, and I always insure. All out of state, 3 different states, never a problem. I think UPS would tell you if there was a problem. Lastly- they DID ask if it was a manufacturer, "not sure why though"
