Hey all, I have a question for those who are familiar with California law. How am I supposed to transport my firearm if I'm on my bike? I don't have side-saddle luggage (it's a sport bike) so it would have to go in my backpack. I know the most logical solution would be to just take my truck. But I have a feeling that in the summer I may want to take my bike for a spin to the range (there's a nice 10 mile stretch of windy road that takes me to my local range).

I imagine I would have to lock the gun and put it in the pancake holder. But what about the ammo? Legally, it's supposed to be away from the gun itself when in a car, but that's not possible on a bike. Any advice?

*note: I know very little about laws, I just keep my head down.
Assuming it's a pistol, put it in your backpack and try not to have too much "fun" on the way there. Maybe you could put the pistol in your pocket (cargo pants) and the ammo in the back pack. I know you'll want more ammo than fits in your pocket. If it's a rifle, get the motorbike riding out of your system, then take the truck to the range.

i use saddle bags, that's within the letter of the law. If you don't have them, perhaps a tank bag, or if you have a rack, tie the backpack down on it. I think that wearing the backpack could be construed as "carrying" which of course is illegal in our fine state without a nearly-impossible-to-get permit. (depending of course on which county you're in.)

look into a cheap tank bag. make sure the handgun is in a locked container and you should be good to go.
