Interesting subject you have brought up.
It should be noted that there may be a need to exit in a hurry if they set fire to your barracaded home(LA riots). I remember a family, few years back that was trapped in a home, that had bars on all the window, they died of smoke inhilation.
If the plywood is attached to the building there must me some way to get out or remove them for exiting or entry. The way they have some of the burgler bars attach is with retaining pins on the inside so they can be removed fast, By steping down on a lever which is attach to cables that pull the retaing pins, releasing the bars.
Firing ports cut in to the bottom corners of the plywood would be usefull. Also fake port radomly place on the plywood would confuse would be snipers with extra targets. While I am on the subject, the wall behind and below the widow should be protected by a double layer of sand bags to give protect from .30 cal. rifles(30-06 and .308.)
One thing to remember is that most of you neigborhood will not be so barracaded. They will be looted first.
A little bit of lumber will slow down the average looter long enough for you to get atleast a few good shots at him.
I have been considering this option in case of earthquake. If my home is still standing that is. Most widow glass is broken during a earthquake.
