How would you handle this?

ATBackpackin: I think I have the same gun. RUGER 22/45 model 10140. The trigger guard on mine looks just like yours. As if they sanded down the area under the trigger guard.

Not only did I see it, but I have in my possession a work order from Ruger.
That being the case, I don't think I'd pursue this with a phone call to Ruger.

They have some serious problems that need to be addressed from the top down. I'd be inclined to write some emails to the highest Ruger officials for whom I could find email addresses with the pictures attached.

It's one thing to return a gun to the factory and have it come back with the same problem it left with, but having a factory service tech cause easily preventable damage to the firearm in the process is totally unacceptable. It's not like they would have a hard time, in this economy, finding replacement employees for workers who don't care about doing a good job.

Not that my wisdom is any more valuable than all the others...

I own two businesses. I have the very best reputation for quality and integrity.

Rarely (but occasionally) one of my staff does something wrong. I don't need my customers to rag on my like I'm slime. I just need them to tell me what happened. I'll take it from there, and I always make it right. Always. That's how I keep my reputation for Customer Service. Probably same for Ruger.

So, perhaps the advice at the top of the thread about Effective Complaint is the best advice. At this point, no need to threaten. No need to mention this thread. No need to go all the way up to the President and kick his butt until he has bad breath.

Just communicate with Customer Service management and let them make you whole. After that, they have a list of people who handled that Work Order # and they'll take care of the offending staff person(s).

They will appreciate your kind participation in making you a happy Ruger owner. That's how they keep their reputation for Customer Service.

John, this is why I am so outraged. It doesn't appear like someone made a mistake, it looks like somebody simply didn't care what happened to someone else's property. However you may be correct about the emails.

My initial reaction is, they did not in fact send it to the company but had some woodchuck in the wilderness throw it onto his cinderblock bench and fire it a few times, just enough to know the work was way in over his head, so he gives the gun back to the dealer and here, all along, you think it went to Ruger.

Dollars to donuts, Ruger never received it!:banghead::fire::mad::cuss::confused::uhoh::(:barf:

If Ruger did, in fact work on it, it could have possibly been some person who was on the way out anyway and just getting back at them for some reason. Maybe, maybe not, just sayin'
I know it is hard to find people today who take pride in their workmanship!

That, there is pretty funny, never heard that expression, I have to remember that!:)

Unfortunately I was not able to contact them today. I spent five hours in the car picking up my daughter. Then we went and did a little shopping, she wanted a computer game as her reward for making the honor roll for the entire year. Now we just got done eating takeout from P.F. Chang's. YUM

On a brighter note, the wife, daughter, and myself are going to the range tomorrow. I will try to contact Ruger after that.

Shawn

Zbird, that is weird, but I know for a fact that mine did not look like that prior to being sent to Ruger.

I haven't returned anything to Ruger but a friend has several times, not for repair but adjustment and refinish. Each time he has been returned a like new gun where they went out their way to do things that he had not requested at no added charge, even replacing parts not up to par. I think Ruger will set things straight.

I totally understand where the OP is coming from. I am generally very unforgiving of defective guns and of bad customer service. I'm still boycotting SIG because of how they treated me a few years back.

Having said that, Ruger customer service is among the best I've ever dealt with. I gave them a chance to fix a GP-100 and it turned out to be the smoothest handgun I've ever owned when I got it back, even more smooth than any Smith and Wessons (old pinned and recessed guns) I've owned. The only thing I sent it back to have repaired was screwing the barrel in a little farther to allow me to get my sights zeroed. When it came back, the work order included had literally a dozen things that had been replaced, fitted, or polished. They basically rebuilt the whole damn thing and the cylinder spins like it's on ball bearing now. They have even offered to work on guns for me that I was the second or third owner of, free of charge.
I'd never hesitate to buy a Ruger - because I feel that they stand behind their products like few others.
I think you should call Ruger tomorrow and get hold of someone who can help you. Explain your problem and see what can be done about it. I'd be surprised if they don't fix it in a way that entirely meets your expectations.

Ruger has been good to me. I shot the piss out of a .44 mag revolver that I purchased used at a gun show. The front screw holding the ejector housing worked its way loose and jumped ship. I called Ruger and told them the story and they said to send it in. I did, and received the revolver back with the missing screw replaced, the cylinder cleaned to perfection, the timing checked and the whole revolver had been cleaned, lubricated, and adjusted.

I hold Ruger in high regard, but everyone has a bad day. Give them a chance to make it right.

Does anyone know the email address or direct contact information of supervisors or managers at Ruger? I have searched all over the net and can only find the email address and phone number for their general customer service.

Thanks
Shawn
