Brownell has several calibers of Howa barreled actions on sale/clearance. 7.62x39 mini action is $220. Heavy barrel (20") 308 1500 action is $240. I ordered one each! Don't really need another 308 and prefer steel bottom metal while majority of my bolt guns are mauser actions and steel! Will have to learn to like the plastics bottom "metal" on the mini (7.62x39) and I also have a 7.62x39 built on mauser! But the prices are hard to resist!
Look for free shipping code at their front page if still available! Sign up for Active Junkey gives another 7% off at the moment.
Add a Boyds stock is around $140.

I'm sitting here trying to justify going back over there and buying one. I certainly don't need another either.

Just grabbed a Hvy bbl 7.62x39

WOW. $208 shipped, for a mini 7.62x39 Howa barreled action? That is a no-brainer and I already have a bolt-action 7.62x39. Wow.

Thank you for the heads up!

Was in my local Walmart today and Vanguard complete rifles were $250.
I stopped by my local WalMart yesterday while the other Mini14 thread shows they have a limited quantity on the $250 308 Vanguard in synthetic stock. They have one left, the one in display. It has a sporter barrel and the stock is flimsy, the stock won't win a beauty contest for sure. I passed, I prefer Brownells' $240 20" heavy barrel and add my own stock. At least I checked WalMart out and made an excuse on the Brownell one I ordered! Definitely check your WalMart if you consider one. Using the link below at the other thread.

7.62x39 barreled action on the way. Now who wants to help me find a cheap stock for it? :D :D :D
Go to Lowes and buy a 2x6?:)A lot of practice and you may have a nice and unique stock! I would wait on Boyd's on sale. I miss their Crazy Deals many years ago!

The 7.62x39 LW is extreamly tempting but my AR already shoot amazing so I don’t know what I would use it for. It would be a good rifle for my daughter in about 10 years.

I've got a stock I just pulled off of a Howa .223 HB. I replaced it with a B&C stock so now I have an doner stock. Spent several hours looking at Brownells sale yesterday and just couldn't decide which to buy. Probably should just get a 308 and be done with it.

That's a pretty crazy price for a 308 barreled action.

That's kinda my plan. That BA will sit in my gun safe until I can find a cheap stock for it. Or curiosity may get the best of me and I'll just drop $129 on a Boyd's and be done with it. Still cheaper than a Ruger American Ranch, and will have a better stock.

After my thread on intermediate cartridge bolt actions, I had decided to go with a Ruger American Ranch in .223 until I saw this deal. 7.62x39 LW on its way! Something tells me I am going to end up with both...

One plus about Ruger American Ranch Rifle is it takes Mini 30 double stack steel mag! Howa mini is plastics mag, and looks like single stack while the 5rnd mag is rather long. I like steel mag and double stack! For the price, I give it a try. Howa mag release in front of mag could cause trouble as well.

The Ruger has a lot going for it, but I'll take the Howa mini action and that nicely blued steel vs. the Ruger. And I like the Ruger!

The mag release is definitely in the wrong place. I've accidentally popped mine out about 2 dozen times. Be warned, you wouldn't want this on a hunting rifle. If you use a bag on a bench it will also pop the mag out. I went to a bipod for that reason. It really is a PIA. The guy that designed that wasn't much of a shooter.

I have several Howa rifles. I would buy another but that mag almost requires a bipod to shoot from a benchrest.

Howa advertises 1 moa on their rifles. So far I haven't seen anything to discredit that. Lots of people can't shoot well enough to use that kind of accuracy.
