Hi,
I have a Remington 700 police LTR with the factory installed HS precision stock.
Somehow the rear sling swivel's threaded hole in the buttstock got rusted. It must be pretty bad because it spreads to any threaded swivel stud I put in there within a few weeks.
Is there any way to fix this so that my swivel studs won't keep rusting? I have tried soaking the threads with CLP for days then using steel will to rub off as much surface rust as I could, but it seems to come right back.
Thanks in advance.
PS: I don't recall ever getting the rifle wet, I'm usually pretty careful about that. The only thing I can think of is that maybe a swivel stud touched some moist ground while I was shooting prone at some point.
