I spend 4 weeks a year in a lovely old village in the mountains were we have a lovely 300 year old house. This year was the most memorable for me as I was honoured with an invite to the regions hunting dinner. The village square was full of like minded people with a love for shooting, guns, good food and good wine (in moderation). These guys are some of the nicest most welcoming people I have had the pleasure to meet.

A few days later I was again invited out for the start of the shooting season (dove shooting) it was a very early start 3am not because it get's light early but to find a good spot.Shooting in Cyprus is so popular that hundreds head up to the mountains once the season starts.I shot 6 doves that morning, rather scraggy birds, but all highly prized and all eaten that same evening at another hunters dinner.

I have great respect for these people who have a love for their sport, they allow very little or no interference from the anti hunting lobby (which I am afraid to say is made up of a few Ex pat British).I look forward to my next trip, and enjoying the company of good people who still value traditional ways.
