Hunting knife recommendation

the deer was already melted?

Well...yes...I was using one of those hot 243 ballistic tips...;)

On a serious note, the knife was a mess when I finished, but I had no problem getting it cleaned up even though it is a folder (Although I do see why a person might prefer a fixed blade for ease of cleaning, and like the smaller folder for carry).

Yeah, but that rubbery handle on the fixed bucks is even harder to get all the slimy fat out of the grooves. They have nice grip, but I've never had a grip issue with my 110. I still stand by the 110 folder as a near perfect deer knife- at least for me.

I gutted dozens of deer with my Buck 119. I like the long heavy blade to cut ribs and break the pelvis bone and cut out the annus. You don't need one that big but I like it better than my benchmade and far better than my folders. But I like Bowie knives. 2 years ago I watched a knifemaker working in the shop where the Bowie knife was invented in SW Arkansas. The original shop is gone but a replica was built on the same site. I don't remember the name of the town.

I agree with the others who recommend a saw for cutting through the pelvis. I picked up this one for the purpose. Only $15. There is also a larger size for a couple more dollars. The tip is supposed to reduce the chance of puncturing the bladder, etc.

Drop point, medium size, fixed blade, premium high carbon stainless or semi-stainless steel (mine is D2). No noticeable grooves, teeth, serrations, hinges, knobs, buttons, etc. I much prefer a Kraton handle for cold messy work. Generally I use a saw for bone cutting.
